Left Ear No Hearing

I was born with no hearing in my left ear; this was found out a few years later. When I was a kid, I had tubes put in my right ear to help my hearing. I recently went to my doctor since my ear, the good 1 was clogged with junk. My doctor said that she did not have the tool to get the junk out, so she prescribed some over the counter medicine for me to put in my ear. The hearing did get better and eventually I went to the ear nose and throat doctor, he sucked some junk out of my ear. He told me I want you to go get a Hearing test, insurance is paying for it, why not. It was not at the same office that I went to in Gaithersburg Maryland, he said I need to go to the Rockville office. I go to get the hearing test done, and this same doctor that I saw in Gaithersburg walks in they do have different offices. I only wanted my hearing checked on my right ear, the lady doctor says lets check both ears.

What they found out from the tests is that something is going on in my head that with my hearing it is going to my right ear. They did a test of my left ear and there was some slight hearing from the tests. They did something interesting; they put something on my neck on the left side by my ear and put noise in my right ear and I could repeat all of the words that were said to me. The person that did the test said they did something to isolate some nerve. Some more tests will need to be done, maybe a Cat Scan. The same doctor I saw a week ago was there at the office, but I would have had waited for about 3 hours.

I am at a loss of words since I have put my cell phone up to my left ear and have been able to hear things very softly. More tests will be coming, maybe a Cat Scan, but at this time with the overcompensation thing in my head my doctor said until further tests are done, the hearing aid thing will probably not work.

Crazy noise in my right ear during the test and with the thing on my nerve on of my left ear, I could hear perfectly.

I see the other Doctor on August 18th, and we will see what he says!

I think it was? I have no clue what a bony spot is?
I think they may have used a kind of hearing aid on the base of your skull behind your left ear that transmits sound via bone conduction. It may mean that your left auditory nerve has some function? I wasn't really sure from how you described it? I'm kinda guessing so I wouldn't put too much stock in it.

It would be so great if they could fix you up with a way to have hearing in both ears.

Exactly, they did say the Nerve was fine, they are saying why is the Nerve fine, but why cannot I hear out of the left ear 100%
All I wanted to see is that my hearing was good in my right ear. They put a heavy sound in my right ear to see what was going on in my left ear, I only could call back a few beeps and no words, I really messed the words up, but when they put what they put on my head I was nervous and thought it was below my ear, yes it was on my skull, I could hear everything, meaning this time, I got all of the words correct.

Fascinating. Ask Grok3 on X to help you understand what might be happening and what options, if any, exist.

The bone conduction test is particularly telling, as it suggests the left ear’s cochlea is working, but something (likely structural) is blocking sound transmission.
