leather seats box ink removal

I need some help with my rear leather seats in my Silverado. I carry a lot of boxes around on the back seats(no more), and it has seemed to leach the ink from the boxes into the leather. I've tried lexol cleaner and about 20 minutes of scrubbing in a small area and it lightened it a little bit.

I'm leaving for chicago in the morning and the kids will be riding in the back the whole way so I kind of wanted to get it cleaned up and protected.

Any ideas? I was going to try a little isopropyl alcohol but wanted to ask first.

My Mom always used hairspray on leather clothing.

Get a portable steam cleaner, steam it, wipe it clean. Works great on seriously neglected leather I have seen come through the detailing shop, just be sure to re condition it after it dries.

Hair spray contains alcohol which is why it romoves the ink. But, it's also very sticky. I have used hair spray in the past too! But, any rubbing alcohol Iso-propol alcohol(60%-70% IPA) or 60% Ethyl Alcoholshould do the trick. These alcohols are used in cleanroom environments/hospitals and are safe on skin unless your sensitive.

Always test an inconspicuous spot and make sure it doesn't hurt the leather. And use a leather treatment afterwards, as alcohol can dry the leather.

Woolite and water........6 parts water to 1 part Woolite. Once clean go to 8 or 10 parts water in the future for maintenance.
If you must use the magic eraser easy does it. It is abrasive.

Thanks for the advice guys. I didnt get it done before the trip but ill work on it this week. Ill post back with the results.

I was cleaning my wife Lexus(spring/summer, 2011) as this was the only real time I had after the winter to give it a real good detail.

This Lexus is an SUV so, when washing the roof, I open the doors and stand up inside the door area(stand on the Door Sill Plates) so that I can reach the top/roof. Well, after time, that plastic carpet holddown panel(Sill Plates) covering, get very dirty/skuffed and I can't really clean it well. The sill panels get skuffed just from getting in/out of the SUV.

My wife made me a mixture of liquid dishwashing soap and water(very dilute as D/W detergent is very strong). Well, I'll tell 'ya this mixutre worked the nuts. It cleaned better than anything I have ever used in 40 years of detailing. I have tried grease/tar remover on these sill plates but, this dishwashing liquid/water mix worked better, even cleaning the grit out of the skuffed area.

The interior is Toyota/Lexus two tone Tan/Cocoa and the seats are Tan leather.

OOPS! I accedently got some of this solution of dishwashing liquid on the leather seats and the liquid cleaned the leather beautifuly without hurting the leather. And I wasn't trying to clean the leather seats.

I am just throwing this idea out there should nothing else work for the OP's(Justinf89) leather seats. You may want to try a very dilute solution on an inconspicuous area first.

Great advice on the magic eraser. it does a great job on lots of surfaces but on leather or vinyl I would be very careful and use a light touch. Kids n pets would be worth a shot as well. it will removes some serious stains. would follow the instructions copied here from their website ....

Is KIDS 'N' PETS INSTANT ALL PURPOSE Stain & Odor Remover safe to use on leather?
A. Yes, but it's important not to saturate the leather. Give your bottle of KIDS 'N' PETS ALL PURPOSE Stain & Odor Remover a couple of shakes, pour onto a clean, dry cloth and wipe a generous amount on the area. After a couple of minutes, wipe the area with another clean, dry cloth. Let the area completely dry and repeat the treatment 2-3 times if necessary. as always try a small test spot first. the great news is that you will now have a great stain and odor remover for the house and car, especially bad odors in the carpet.

Well now that you mention it a couple of youngsters in the back seat wearing microfiber pants crawling around on the seats hmmmmmmmmm we might be on to something there. as far as the pets go they just refuse to wear anything made of microfiber LOL !
