Yes I already tried one run of Auto-rx and I have been hampered with a leaking head gasket [just fixed that] replaced leaking distributor seal [just fixed that as well] I personally replaced the timing belt side cam and crank seal a year ago so what is left is the leaking main seal again. I know Frank is NOT a fan of HM oils . . . but I have nothing to loose at this point. To have the shop replace it is about $700+. I would of thought more than enough of Auto-Rx molecules would of cleaned up the main seal area if it had been an issue.

Lets just say there is oil spots on the back of the car today after a 400 mile trip.

So . . . now it's time for main seal swell action.

Castrol HM conventional . . . .?
Valvoline Maxlife conventional. . . .?
Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w30. . . .?
Super Tech HM. . . .?

Congrats on making it this far! Those early 90's Civics are amazing cars.

As for an oil fixing your leak, I really doubt it. After that many miles, you're either gonna need to replace or cope.

I gave-up "medicated therapy" with my volvo and ordered all but valve stem seals. The engine's coming out later this spring. The rear seal on this engine is about 4" in diameter...a lot of lip surface area and surface speeds to contend with over the years.

I tried Castrol and Valvoline's HM which helped slow things down, but I detest the oil spots under the car and I just didn't feel "confident" still having to contend with failing o-rings in the oil network that would cause lifter clatter at cold start. As a last step I tried some of Bar's rear main seal repair in addition - best effect yet but this all seemed extreme.

Perhaps some of this will work well enough for you???

Take care.

Yea, I'v tried everything on my pop's 98 Blazer with 220,000 miles. Auro-RX, HM oils, and even several bottles of buy one get one free Bar's rear main seal repair and stop leak. Still drip drip drips away!

If it's not really really bad, I'd just let it be.

Just bought some Pennzoil High Mileage 5w30 . . . then I will try Val MaxLife blend . . . .. . then some GTX HM . . . etc.

When I was a China-Mart today I did notice that Super Tech High Mileage has an Energy Conserving rating on the API service label. This is first HM oil I have seen on the shelf that has that.

Anyhow I would like to progress to Mobil 1 HM at some point because it's a better oil. In the seal swell department I'm not sure.

It will really have to dump oil out the seal at a rapid rate to justly all the trouble to replace the seal.

The problem with bringing seals back is the expetation that it will happen quickly. One good thing with Auto-Rx is that it slows you down. You get the idea that maybe it will be three or four thousand miles to get those seals working again.

the main seal is in between your engine block and transmission, theyre gonna need to be separated, so that should give you an idea

We had one of my wife's old cars done maybe 7 years ago and it was at least 600-700. I can't remember the exact amount.
