Le Mans 2024

I love it. I have been sailing the high seas at work watching a stream since I don't have the HBO Max app.
The Max app is a game changer for me. Free through ATT and not having to VPN the race. Buying the WEC app was a waste now, especially since they didn’t allow LeMans. Wondering if someday it will be 4k. Also commercial free. I VPN IMSA races because the USA coverage is garbage and there are 10 minute of commercials every 5 minutes of racing.

I went the the 1983 24 Hours of Le Mans. To this day it may still be the closest finish ever. The Rothmans 956 Porsches were the machines to beat that year.

Vern Shuppan, Hurley Haywood, and Al Hobert won. Hobert's right side door blew off during the final 30 to 45 minutes, causing the engine to slowly overheat. We could actually see him sitting in the cockpit while he raced past.

While entering the final chicane before the grandstand straight to take the win, Hobert changed gears to downshift - but the motor seized. Amazingly he had the presence of mind to jam it into 1st or 2nd gear, unlocking the motor! He stopped his wounded and smoking, race winning 956 right in front of us! We were standing just before the Dunlop Bridge.

See the attached link of Derek Bell in his #1 car. I saw that 246 mph run down the Mulsanne Straight - and it was done at night!!! He and I talked about it at Laguna Seca 3 or 4 years ago. No kidding! He and I had a nice conversation with each other!

Edit: Looks like you can no longer post links without jumping through endless hoops that don't work.

Search for this "Dentro la 24ore di Le Mans 1983 con Derek Bell" on Youtube. Sound starts at 16 seconds in.

I got to chat with the Porsche drivers, Jo Siffert and Pedro Rodriquez before the race at Daytona. Always remember how engaging they were. Porsche pits were next to the Ferrari pits. Night and day operation. Rodriguez was killed at Nurburgring Ring next year.

Racing memories are the best.

Race is in hour eight. Enduro racing is the pinnacle of man and machine. I went to the Daytona 24 hour a long time ago. Always been a dream to go to France for this. Anybody else enjoy this type of racing?

I love this style of racing, multiple classes all on the track at the same time.

Very exciting unlike NASCAR.
