adding 2 oz. of this per qt. of engine oil, will it thicken or thin a synthetic oil?

Likely neither to any significant degree. But you would need to know the host oil viscosity to really know.

That would probably depend on the 40 & 100 degree cSt ratings of said synthetic oil?

It will thin it slightly whether synthetic oil or not.

It has been stated before that LC20 is about a 20 weight. I would expect that in the mix rate it would imperceptibly thin any host oil heavier than a 20 weight.
