LC with my GC or not?

Hello everyone. I just wondered if anyone had an opinion as to whether I should use LC with GC on my first run or not, or should I just use GC without any LC at all? I'll be finishing up the arx rinse phase in my 95 Explorer soon, and am planning on changing the oil with GC. I'm going to change it at 5k for the first run and do a UOA. Should I run it straight the first time, or add LC to the oil? Anyone have an opinion?

You can do very well without it. But I think, at least for some applications, you can do even better with LC. In the GC-Green I just dumped from my G35, I had insolubled of only 0.1 at 4600 miles and 0.3 at 7100 miles. I posted both results in the UOA section. Note also the outstanding particle counts, strong fluid condition, and low wear metal throughout the run. This is a low sweat, "better-best" decision, not a good-bad thing.

I don't see any need to use LC for a 5k run of GC. If your UOA at 5k reads well for your Explorer (4.0L V6?) and you decide to extend your OCI to 8k - 10k, then maybe LC would be appropriate.

blue moon is a coors product brewed for the masses. it doesn't come from belgium. most places serve it with an orange.

as for GC - Terry Dyson has stated several times that he uses LC in GC to control thickening. you can take that or leave it, but he probably knows more about GC than anyone on here.

Yes thats the reason I was going to use it because of what Terry Dyson had said. I make a lot of short trips, and currently drive in very high temperatures it will be 100 degrees in Oklahoma City today. Would LC be beneficial to me, or should I just leave the GC alone and see how it does on my first UOA?

I'd wait until the second fill of GC so that all of the remnants of Auto-RX are gone before adding LC. Even after the upcoming oil change, some Auto-RX and the rinse phase oil will remain in your engine. I'm not saying that LC + Auto-RX is disaster, but I'd prefer to keep things separate...I'm think Frank would agree.

I concur. With Terry's advice, we've got me settled into a very successful routine using LC20 in my GC. My vis stays dead on target, and the insolubles have been incredibly low. GC by itself will do fine, especially in shorter OCIs, but then, shorter OCIs are a waste of good product. I'm trying to maximize GC's potential, and at least in my engine, the LC seems to help do that.
