I have read several posts where users are using a larger than specified oil filter. My question is how do you know which larger size will fit? I have a 2012 F150 with the 5.0L and wouldn't mind using a larger filter to extend OCI.

That doesn't have a thing to do with longer OCIs. Just use the OEM size filter and extend away with a quality oil suited for longer OCIs.

Use a non recommended filter under manufacturers warranty period, and if something happens, you're in trouble.Actually, anytime you use a non specified oil filter and there is an issue(rare),any warranty of merchantability goes right out the window. That would be their first loophole "you used the wrong one for your application".The oil type/weight would be next under scrutiny.

Rather than using a larger filter on any given application, I usually try and find a filter with a superior filter media like mircoglass or some other synthetic media. Many filter manufacturers have an upgraded version which is supposed to be more efficient at smaller micron ratings.

Thanks for the information. I am coming up on my first oil change and have to get filters this weekend, I think I am going to go with the Mobil 1's. Thanks again to all.

years ago my dad had a 1977 new yorker 440. but the newer new yorker used a shorter filter. but you could not get the older longer filter in.
