Laptop problem

I know this is an oil forum, but a lot of you guys are computer experts. I know enough, but this is stumping me.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A305-S6858 laptop. Every now and again it won't start up properly. I press the power button, and the hard drive light flashes for about a second, then nothing from it. I hear the CD drive turn once, then nothing. At no point does anything come up on the screen. Usually, I hold the power button to shut it off, then wait a half hour or so, then start it up and all is well.

I've looked online and it seems that when people have had similar problems they have not been intermittent like this, so so far I haven't tried replacing any components or anything.

Any thoughts?

I think something is going on with the motherboard. I had an HP with an Invidia chip. It did that and finally went bad.

Check Toshiba's website for a BIOS update.

You can find the BIOS update for your model here: http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/support/downloads/sag0v180.exe

Run it and follow the instructions.
