So the Lake Speed Jr. and Repair Geek just posted a video testing 5 different diesel fuel additives against untreated fuel. Interesting results with Cetane and wear scar. If you don't want to watch the whole video just go to time stamp 23:43 to look at the results. That said there is a lot of good info throughout the entire video.

I would have liked to see Amsoil but Andrew stated the testing was $800 per sample so I can see why they didn't do more products.
Yeah truly a chunk of change

My comment was before the cost parts. Twas interesting! Good stuff just can’t be on my erse 45 minutes so I am cleaning the dishwasher while watching and listening on the big tv

I routinely use Power Service in white and grey bottle. Have for years.

Recently, someone told me about a cleaner from Liquimoly (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CPL8OVE?ref=fed_asin_title&th=1) that I am going to use as a preventative thing, in an old "real" diesel engine.

Never heard of XPD. Pretty expensive.

I think I will stick with what has worked well for me, Power Service

@Pablo what about Amsoil?

Diesel fuel additives are a very complex series of topics. In no specific order, these are the topics which might be addressed by any brand product. The products can be either singular in approach, or a multi-tier approach:
- cold weather flow
- lubricity
- cetane improvement
- detergency
- fuel stability
- biocide agents

I use the white bottle FPS (technically their winter formula, but can be used all year long); it has a little less cetane boost, but adds the all-weather ability by suppressing the wax cloud point. I've used it for years, and been very pleased. I think there will always be a product that might outpace it in one category or another, but when you look at all the topics I listed above, the PowerService white bottle address most all of them and does so in a positive manner. It's one of the better "all around" products, IMO.

I wanted to understand the underlying chemistry in the PowerService various products and so I called their tech line. They put me in touch with a chemist who took the time (almost an hour on the phone) to explain all the whys and wherefores to me. That alone made a lifelong consumer out of me. I'm not saying that other brands aren't good; they probably are. But PowerService does make a very good product and they took the time to help the consumer understand the choices to make; that was the tipping point for me.

Have always used PowerService white bottle anti-gel to treat my fuel for winter and the grey bottle in summer for some extra pump lubricity. Always keep a bottle of red diesel 911 on hand too.

I cant stand the guys voice and speed at which he relays the info. But good info I guess. Still power Power service for me!

Don't forget the project farm one armed bandit! :)
Hey man I made it through his terrible screetchie voice. He's an odd duck. All of a sudden he's testing Amsoil 2 stroke race oil? The heck??

I will say I've never seen a recovery type product in use. Basically the few that worked, only worked with double dose+. But even weird he threw yet another kind of product in the mix.

I wonder why they only worked with x2 the dose, that seems weird to me.

When you think about it, a large mass - 30-50+ gallons - of gelled diesel fuel adding a few ounces, of much anything, not going to do the job.

I would add a few warm bottles let it sit then fill the tank up with the best, driest, warmest diesel that one could find.

See above. I was referring to the types, the goals, the expected roll of each product. One guy tested some additives, the other guy tested anti-gel and recovery additives.

Got it now, I see the Amsoil he chose was the Cold Flow which isn't a cetane booster. And of the brands that overlap 4/5 of the PF products claim to boost cetane except Stanadyne.

PF was planning on doing the wear test, pretty idiotic he didn't use the All-In-One

I guess he was only doing wear tests because of claims???? Wear tests seem silly for a cold flow diesel additive.

Really the only diesel additive from Amsoil that I would expect a little wear protection is the injector cleaner.

If you are really wanting wear protection put some concentrated 2 stroke OPE oil like Saber (not race oil) in the tank.
