La Quinta Inns: OK place to stay for a night?

The LQ's I have stayed in have been clean and crust free.

OTHER hotels I have stayed in had public hairs in the bed and one place had skid marks in the pottay.

Used to stay in one in Irvine right near John Wayne airport. It was a converted lima bean silo. It was always clean and well run. Breakfast was spartan.

I've had decent experiences with them with the exception of a couple. I don't need anything special for my rooms, I'm only in there to sleep. It's highly location dependent, nicer locations will be nicer and iffy locations are very iffy. The two I have had issues with was one during the middle of cv19 for a wedding near Richmond, VA -nice place but you could tell they were very short staffed because the bathroom wasn't cleaned. Left a so-so review. The second was in MN - I thought the area was nicer than it really was but I was wrong. It was humid inside, smelled, and I'm 99% sure it was a hotspot for crack dealers (I ended up not staying there, I didn't bother with a refund -just left and left a bad review.

I've only stayed at a LQ once, and it was one of the fancier places I've ever stayed. Your experiences may vary. I did wind up signing up for their rewards club but never stayed at a LQ again and my points expired.

Whatever happened to Atikovi? I am sure he knows a place in Tulare for just $25 a night.

I have stayed in a few. Wildly different properties. Some are new. Some are repurchased hotels from other chains that are way past prime and not very clean.

I can say the same for most mid tier brands. The reviews are often worthless. You don’t know till you get there.

If there are a decent amount of recent poop reviews, then you know.

Hit or miss. Some properties are OK, some aren’t. They’re low end. Used to stay in La Quinta when I was an ensign in the Navy and had very little money. In Florida, they were OK.

All hotel prices are high, these days. So, I tend to stick with a known quantity, like Sheraton, Marriott, Hilton. I’ll stay within the brand, like Doubletree for Hilton. I get, and accumulate, perks for all the stays I book, so, staying within brand helps.

For an infrequent traveler, that latter part doesn’t matter, but still, I would review the lower tier, like La Quinta, on a property by property basis.

When in doubt, I like Hampton Inn for single night stays. Its a Hilton affiliated chain, the rooms are always clean, quiet, well heated or cooled, and all facilities work. And the free breakfast the next morning is quite good.

If I am having an extended stay, I like Residence Inn by Marriott. Its more like a small apartment.

Never had an issue at a LQ. Actually trust to have a nice room vs other chains.
We arent exactly world travelers though. Recent (late last year) trip to the Durham area of NC we stayed by choice at LQ again. First time this location other times was near the coast of Charleston SC by motorcycle.

Anyway it was perfect as this was a medical trip and close to Duke.
The room price was great, the hotel very nice, we had a second floor suite on top of it. True suite, separate BR, LR with TVs etc. and the hall to the suite was open air to the lounge and breakfast area on the first floor. Nicely done.

I almost ignored the skid marks, but black pubes in the bed?? NO WAY

Then they said they would give us some free stay credit. Never did.

We stayed at those when the kids were young bcs they were often next to Denny’s and the rascals liked breakfast there …
Nowadays everything is Hilton or Marriott to maintain member status and get upgrades or free stays … (and I boiled down airlines the same) …

I have only stayed in a LQ once or twice, and was not impressed. As others have said, I would put LQ above Motel 6 and Days Inn, but they are no longer among my choices.

Regardless of which motel / inn, you need to look at the specific one. They can go all over the place. I had good ones in most "better" major brands and bad ones so far only with those like Rodeway, Days Inn, Motel 6, etc.

I have stayed at a few La Quinta Inns and they all seem to be 2-3 star properties. Each one has been clean, but very basic; however, a step up from a Super 8 type hotel. Somewhat comparable to a Best Western or Comfort Inn, but without the cigarette smells. Be aware that nearly all La Quinta Inns are pet friendly; hence, many travelers bring their dogs. The complementary breakfast is nothing to write home about.

These are by definition all 2-3 stars, including up to Best Western Plus if I remember right. They don't have bell boys, restaurants, conference room, etc but they usually come with free breakfasts. Normally the 4+ starts one are like Hilton Garden Inn or Hyatt House and those don't come with free breakfast or parking usually.

It has nothing to do with only quality within the star rating, like cleaniness or staff quality.

I may have to zip out of town for a day or two. Heading into California's Central Vally. There's a deal avaialable for a room at the La Quinta in Tulare, which is convenient to my destination. I've never stayed at a La Quinta (that I can recall). Are they a decent place to stay. I don't need or want fancy, but clean, comfortable, and some amenities would be appreciated.

What's the feeling here about La Quinta i general, at at La Quinta in Tulare if anyone is familiar with the place?

Its been afew years but I always enjoyed staying at LaQuinta Inns.
Of course there cna always be major differneces betwene locations.
For example some Day's Inn are great some are drug dens.
