After reading all the wisdom on Ktmtalk.com about how best to look after the engine on my '06 KTM 525 EXC while Dual Sporting, and now stumbling on this forum I am totally confused!
The conventional approach seems to be;
1)The engine runs hot and has very little oil in the combined Engine/gearbox/wet clutch.
2) Add a additional oil cooler/reservoir to increase the volume of oil and lower the oil temperature.
3) Make the bike run richer to help with bringing the engine temp. down.

From what I can see on this forum, the main culprit is the combined gearbox/engine though.
If the viscosity shears down due to the gears so quickly, will adding the oil cooler/reservoir help at all?

Additionally, I see that most recommendations are to use Rotella oil because it is cheap and then can be changed frequently.
Rotella doesn't seem to be sold by Shell in South Africa, so I'm not sure what to use as an alternative?

are you talking about rotella 15w40?

that is their diesel/dual fleet rated oil (gas/diesel)

I think you've got two separate "problems"
1. Bike runs hot, so adding an addition cooler solves this using any oil.
2. Gear boxes shear oil down, changing the oil more often solves this, so you want an inexpensive oil.
Shell has a heavy duty engine oil called Rimula that seems to be the global version of Rotella T. I'd assume its basically the same as Rotella T but I'd do some research to see if its wet clutch compatible. I've run Rotella T 0W40 5W40 and 15W40 in my ATV and they worked fine.
