Kreen questions

So I've read up on the forums about Kreen and I have just a liiitttllleee bit of hesitation.

1. It's just used in oil right? not fuel.

2. The car is a 1997 Camry 4cyl 165k with 5-7k OCI with dino (maybe). questionable history.

What do ya think? Are there any disadvantages to running Kreen?

My understanding is that it's very aggressive and works quickly. Personally, I like the MMO approach, but Kreen does have a number of fans here.
 
Kreen is great in gasoline and oil! I have worked on gasoline engines on many boats, so many people think boat engines are a lot different from car engines but many are not...Anyhoo, I use Kreen whenever I need to get a sludged up engine working, it is the best product I have seen work to date. I only recommend it in the oil for vehicles that have higher mileage (you don't need it if you take care of your car with regular OCI's). I use it in the fuel tank about a month before oil change in all of my vehicles. I think your application would be great for Kreen. Just change oil filters every 1500mi. Use the Kreen as directed for 3 3-4K OCI's and she should be clean as a whistle.

NOTE: I have heard people say that it can break large particles of carbonized sludge free, thus clogging the screen. I have never known this to be a verified occurrence.
 
I'm a little leery of powerful quick work chemicals and Kreen is nothing, if not that. It appears to be effective. So, where does the sludge go? Either it's in suspension in the oil, in the pan (and potentially in your pick up screen/tube), or in your filter. Option one is the only one I would like to see unless I was going to pull the pan after to see for myself. The poster above uses it for sludged up engines in boats, which is not a bad application for Kreen. I would consider it as a last resort for a heavily sludged engine that I have nothing to lose on. Otherwise I lean toward a slower process like MMO, or even Pennzoil Ultra or Platinum with shorter OCIs and cutting open the filter for inspection. HDEOs are thought to have cleaning properties as well. Shell even touts Rotella as having cleaning properties when used in gas engines and shorter OCIs.
 
IMO, based on the two above posts, if you use something that is aggressive you should be prepared to DROP your oil pan at oil change time. Perhaps a slower acting product, not so much, but something like Kreen or even SeaFoam when used in an engine suspected of not being on the 'clean' side, should have the oil pan dropped while doing the oil change after such use of an aggressive product. That way, you have physically cleaned the bottom of the pan and inspected the oil screen.
 
Yea, I too was a little leary about what would happen with the sludge.

Great advice, I'm leaning toward giving it a try.
 
I use it in my Saturn and experienced great results; look at the Kreen Update thread.
 
If you feel that Kreen is to fast a cleaner then give MMO a try. Start off with a pint for the last 1000-1500 miles of the OCI. Then run a qt for a 3000 mile interval. Or if you feel you have a real sludged up engine and don't have the time, ability, or desire to drop the pan. Then use it for 1000-1500 miles at the end of the OCI for a couple of OCIs, then do a 3000 mile run with it.
 
i ran an oci with a qt of mmo first. now im on kreen and seeing results! if its sludged up bad i would do a couple short runs with mmo before i kreened it. and get 2 qts when you order or you will regret it.

but my opinion is it works very well i plan on posting filter pics on my thread when im done.
 
Your best bet is direct from the mfg, Kano Labs. Google them since they are not a site sponsor.

(i still dont know what alot of the abbreviations mean lol. like i saw one that looked like aflac.and what is IIRC? ur not the only one!)
 
I takes a while to catch the abbreviations, I'm still learning myself.
