HI guys,

My truck,a 2004 silverado,with the 5.3, 95k. Has been triggering a
check engine light, every 30 to 40 mi.for the last 2 years. My scan
gauge shows code 420&430.
I put 16oz in the engine and 16 oz in the tank.
So far 600 mi and no cel, hope that cured it for good.

Catalyst efficiency codes on both cats, both sides of a v8 at the same time (P0420, P0430)?? That would indicate running rich overwhelming both cats. Did you clear the codes or did they go away on their own?

that is pretty amazing; those codes are pretty tough to fix (permanently) via chemicals in the tank.

Leaky
I cleared the codes with my scan gauge. I know them codes are
hard to get rid of.
So far so good

Keep us posted on this if you would. After 600 mi and no codes returned its doing pretty good.

We own many GM fleet trucks and have found a bit of Kreen in the fuel quickly cures carbon knock. It will also help with the problematic PCV orifice that usually clogs as the engine ages!

Kreen works. Now.

does scangauge have an ability to give you i/m data or pending codes? It is highly unlikely to have an incomplete test after 600 miles or have a pending code for 600 miles but would be nice to be certain of it though.

I had the P0420 code and CEL stuck on in my Altima for 2 years. Never went off.

I put two bottles of Gumout Regane in the tank and a 1/4 tank in, they have disappeared. No CEL for the past 3 months, 6k miles. I can see how Kreen could clean up the CAT as well.

My P0420 came on after putting Lucas UCL in the gas. I think the Regane (PEA) cleaned the residue off the CAT material. JMO.

I'm glad it worked and saved you money, thinking out of the box pays off sometimes.

Some fuel additives work quite well, but I would do some research into which one is best for this particular problem. A good blast down the highway on a Sunday often cleans out the exhaust system, but if you use poor quality fuel then major brand fuel additives (BG, Lubriguard, Liqui Moly etc) are a good idea. It's even possible if Cat trouble is common the engine manufacturer will have recommended a specific fuel additive.

Hmm... is :finger: a thing here? j/k just take some before and after shots, preferably with the VC off, and we'll call it good

I don't like doing them on a 5.4 even when paid to remove them. No way would i R&R one that wasn't leaking just for a look see.

No one thats ever seen one would expect that from you.

Sounds like you have had good results with Kreen in the gas. are you using the 16 oz dose in a full tank ?
