What does thus mean? If I don't let it run at an idle for like 15 seconds before shutting off it will shutdown and then a couple seconds later it tries to fire back up for a couple more seconds. It's like it's still burning any residual gas in the combustion chamber. It sounds horrible, because it's not firing at the right time and I think it my be turning the engine backwards. Sounds like metal slamming against metal. Engine is new done it since day one. Bought it back in June, has maybe 20hrs on it.

The needle & seat need replaced if not the whole carb. Possibly the anti-back fire solenoid needs a test too if it has one. If it doesn't have one see about adding one.

How it's brand new?
ah ha...:D as an example my "new" carb had a similar issue very recently & I had to add a ground wire to the carb due to the anti-fire solenoid not getting a proper ground. There are a few different ways a carb can fail & it doesn't have to be a well used carb.

It doesn't have a solenoid. That's only on the bigger engines. I think they do that whenever it's right next to the muffler. I have a mower that the carb is directly over the muffler and it has one. Same with the other mower.

I had the same issue with a Kohler. Let it fast idle for a minute or two depending upon temperature. Also high octane gas in hot weather.
