As long as the outside temp is above 50 use an SAE 30. See if that helps

I have a 28hp EFI Vanguard on my Ferris 52” walk behind and use M1 15W50. It doesn’t burn any oil at all and has more power than I can use. I cut my back field every 2-4 weeks and it’ll mow 12-15 inches of grass down to 3.75” pulling me on a sulky on hills and doesn’t bog at all.

Tell him to try a different oil.
