Split rims are still a danger when all the air is let out?

No. Putting the air in them and setting the ring with a sledgehammer if it moved even under a few psi is the dangerous part.
Even putting them on the vehicle after doing them scares me, its like looking down the barrel of a loaded gun.

1.30 is a split rim letting go.

That is the most incredibly stupid thing i have ever seen! Unbelievable!
I use spring compressors with 2 fingers on each end. I lay them on the concrete when swapping out. I never let either end of the strut aim at my body when compressed.
I'm guessing there is anywhere from 400- 1000lbs of stored energy there depending on the spring/vehicle.

Those klann compressors look pretty good, first time I've seen them. Are they vehicle specific? I don't think they will slip off at all , as long as you aren't dropping them while compressed.
