“There’s about forty New Zealanders and about another 120 Australians here,” said New Zealand firefighter Craig Cottrill. “We got a request for help from your federal agencies so we’ve come to here to A — assist as much as we can and B — to learn a bit from the scale of what you do here, it’s amazing.”

I want to thank them for their help....it can be very dangerous.

Is it possible that some of these fires are being started as a form of terrorism?
I don't hear that mentioned as a possibility....

There is enough fire dangers here that you don't need terrorism for that. It happens every single year in the late summer, just a matter of which part of California. They have resources planned ahead of time for that for a reason.

Thank you all, we need all the help we can.

The interesting thing is and I lived outside of Redding California for years is the fire fighters run towards the fires, where most run away.

A lot of them are deliberately lit...I don't think it's terrorism.

The little country town that my Mum grew up in, the local barber was also head of the volunteer fire brigade. The bells would ring the truck pass out the front of the barber shop, he'd drop everything and swing onto the truck and go and fight fires.

It took decades for people to piece together that the shop was closed with a "back in one hour" sign on it on many of the mornings that fires developed.

They are all over the place up here and in Canada, 99% of them are started from lightning strikes. Lightning likes to strike dead "Snag" trees that can burn for days and create the base of a fire that can last for months.

I have actually seen lightning strike and start a fire within 1/2 mile from my house. Fortunately the fire dept. was able to climb up the mountain and extinguish it.

This one is about 7 miles from my house, they estimate it will not be contained till it snows approx. 11/30/18. They have no real means to fight some of these types of "Wild Fires" resources are used in areas closer to homes, not the National Forest.

Idaho, Bonner county, Cougar Gulch Complex
Current Situation Level 3
Total Personnel 113
Size 900 Acres
Estimated Containment Date Friday November 30th, 2018 approx. 12:00 AM
Fuels Involved
Timber litter and understory; 2 foot brush

Significant Events
Active fire behavior, backing and group tree torching. Fire is burning actively in jackpots of heavy dead fuels and torching subalpine fir trees.

Thanks to all that help fight fires! Special thanks to the Aussie's and Kiwi's! Would offer to buy them beer, but I'm not sure California has enough beer for them!

It's winter here, there are still fires, but not big ones out of control...so we can spare a few good guys. California beer ? They'll drink it, but don't ask what they think of it.

They do have Belgian and German beer in California! Even some Aussie beer! My good mates from your homeland seem not to complain about drinking Belgian and German beer in English pubs for some reason:=)
