Purchased a Kirkland Group 35 AGM battery for the Corolla. The bottom of the battery has this weird “grid” layout. I have never seen this on other JCI batteries.

Are these still being supplied by JCI?

My Duralast AGM battery I just installed in my Jeep Grand Cherokee has that same bottom, "grid pattern". (It was made by Johnson Controls). I know because I kept getting it hung up on the 2 hold down mounting studs, when I dropped into the battery well under the passenger seat.

I’m wondering it they didn’t need as large plates to achieve the specified CCA but put the grid in to maintain the proper battery dimensions for group 35. Instead of producing a 700 CCA battery, they made it a 650 CCA to compete with the non AGM 650 CCA batteries.

"EverStart batteries are manufactured by Johnson Controls, the sole supplier of these batteries to Walmart as of 2022".

Our 2017 Tahoe has the factory battery - so I should preemptively replace it. I always wind up with an EverStart Maxx because they are decent batteries and there is not a town I go to that doesn’t have a Walmart …

So, if the linked news release to be believed, East Penn will no longer supply any WM Everstart batteries? Around here it's been Clarios anyway, but in other places that will be a change.

Can't add anything to topic battery, seems unlike WM EverStart no identifying notes. Thinking more seems Interstate was Clarios/JCI, don't know about AGM.

That's what I put in my truck last week. They were also far cheaper than ANY of the chain auto stores. $124.00 as opposed to $209.00 from Autozone for the same group in a Duralast.

I don't understand. This part is from the end of the article:

Conclusion: Who Makes EverStart Batteries?

EverStart batteries are manufactured by the parent company of Johnson Controls, an American battery company and one of the largest in the world.

After Johnson Controls partnered with Walmart in 2010, they became the sole producer of Walmart’s popular EverStart battery.

Johnson Controls manufactures EverStart batteries that are low maintenance, cost-effective, and last for many years.

It says JC produced all EverStart batteries since 2010. How does East Penn and the others fit in? I don't think the article is correct.

I don’t think this worth getting worried about but from my understanding, Johnson Controls no longer exits as it was purchased the the financial company called Brookfield and was rebranded as Clarios. A lot of their production comes out of Mexico. I find Everstarts made both in Mexico and the USA up here in Canada. There is a lot of info on this Forum if a person searches Clarios. :)

Johnson Controls still exits, the company merged with Tyco International to form Johnson Controls International in 2016 with a new HQ in tax dodging friendly Ireland. The battery business was sold off in 2019 and is now Clarios. I tend to agree that the grid pattern is just a spacer since to call a battery group 35 it needs to have approx. dimensions of 9 1/16" L x 6 7/8" W x 8 7/8" H, and a CCA rating of 700 or 650 is not part of the requirement.

Yes. You are correct. Now the old farts don’t have to refer to batteries made by Johnson Controls. Johnson controls is no longer in the battery business. Clarios is. :)

Check posting #16. We need to come to some agreement here for posterity. My understanding is Johnson Controls does not make batteries anymore. Brookfield bought the battery division and rebranded it as Clarios.

I’ll correct this earlier post. Brookfield purchased the battery division of Johnson Controls, not the whole company. Johnson Control still exists but does not make car batteries. Anyone who mentions Johnson Controls or JCI has to put a dollar in the swear jar. How about that? ;)

Some of the Everstart Value batteries are Exide-I had one die inside of 2 years on my mom’s Matrix. The gold Maxx ones I’ve had have been “swear jar” in the past, but since they were leakage prone I’ve been changing everything over to East Penn. With STELLAR results, I might add.
