In addition to cancer, Lemmy had been suffering from a number of other well-publicized health issues, including diabetes, a heart arrhythmia, and hematoma. In 2013, he was fitted with an implantable defibrillator to correct an irregular heartbeat. His health issues had caused the cancelation of multiple Motörhead performances in recent years, though Lemmy remained an active force up until the time of his death.

Lemmy’s outlandish behavior further fueled his iconic status. He was fired from Hawkwind after being arrested at the Canadian border for drug possession, yet his appetite for drugs and alcohol remained a constant throughout most of his career. He famously claimed he had drunk a bottle of Jack Daniel’s every day since turning 30, and he was also a proponent of amphetamines.
While I feel for his family, as I hate the concept of loss of loved ones, I can't help but connect the dots of hard living and questionably working core body functions... even with this terminal cancer (which the diagnosis was six months, not three days).
I really hate to come across trashing on the dead, regardless of the reasons, but this guy is being made an icon as much for the illegal and questionable activities, as for (or much more than) his music.
