Oh great and knowledgable ones, I had my truck down at the Firestone Tire place last weekend. I was there for belts but they were OK, so I had my oil changed. They used Kendall synthetic oil. I have never heard of Kendall synthetic. What is this stuff? Is it any good? Have you heard anything about it's makeup? It is new to me! I am not sure if I should get this stuff out of my truck ASAP. Thanks for your help.

My local AZ sold Kendall synthetic up until Spring '05. The bottles on the shelf always looked dusty. I don't think they sold very much of it, probably because people were not familiar with it. My guess is that it's a good synthetic oil.
One thing is certain, I've never run across a single internet post that said: "My engine (fill in the blank with engine horror story) because I ran Kendall oil."

It is a product of ConocoPhillips, a pretty big and reputable company. The MSDS isn't specific on which basestock is used . . .just "proprietary synthetic." The specs look OK, but I would have expected a little higher HTHS from a synthetic, but it is in range. It is rated SM/GL-4 and ACEA A1 and A3. It appears to be a run-of-the-mill synthetic, which means it's quite good. If the price was right, I would use it.

Kendall motor oil is made by ConocoPhillips which also makes the popular Ford MotorCraft line of oils. Do some searching here for "Kendall" and see what kind of info you can dig up.
Do a search for the MSDS on this oil on Kendall's website. If the CAS#s for the base oils include starting digits of "64" AND "68", that designates Group III AND Group IV respectively, though it's highly unlikely you'd find a percentage breakdown. If only "64", then the base oils are comprised solely of Group III very severely hydroprocessed base oils. I suspect it'll be the latter. Report back.
I called them and talked to a tech a year or two ago about their 5w-40. I was told it is a group 4 pao.
The oil should be just fine. My only concern would be the filter they used.

Firestone uses GT-1 syn-blend since last year. If you use Firestone credit, you get the $12.99 per oil change and 12 pt check and fluid refill. Decent value. I change my oil at Firestone in summer even though it is my hobby. In winter, I swith to MobileOne or German Castrol for further pretection.
Kendall does make a full synthetic. Like I said in an earlier post, the MSDS lists the basestock as a proprietary synthetic (without a CAS number.) You can find it here:

Kendall is good oil. Just as Trop Artic, Motorcraft, Conoco, and Phillips 66 are good oil.

Thanks for all the responses. The oil is a Full Synthetic. Not a blend. The bottle was black with a gold top. 5w30. It seems to be OK so far. I am not going to dump it until 5000 mile change time. I never saw this oil in Walmart or anywhere. My guy at Firestone Tires uses it. Got cases of the stuff.
Oh, And I always ask for full synthetic. Never a blend. And I checked the bottles to make sure.
