I'd follow the factory engineers recommendation period. Some of us think we are smarter but, I am not one of them. Ed

We've been debating this for the 2011 FIT . It has 2,100+ miles and is reading 90% for oil life . The owners manual states it cound be 81% or little higher . I'd like to use TOYOTA 0w-20 synthetic , while she wants the HONDA synthetic
. It's hard not to change the oil early like previous TOYOTAs we have / had . The O.C. itch is driving me
. We're also considering an U.O.A. for it .

exactly. Is it that much rocket science? You buy a new vehicle, presumably with a warranty, I know I'd be following that book to the "T" lol....have no fear.
Just make sure the RP that you decide to run meets the "specs" and ratings requested per Honda.....

I went 3K miles on my '11 Civic. Went to Pennzoil Conventional 5w20.
It won't matter if you change the FF early or not. The car will wear out long before the engine does whichever way you decide.
I'm a firm believer in EARLY changes of the initial oil fill. Re-fill with a high-moly oil if you want to keep Honda's initial oil chemistry while getting rid of break-in detritus.
I think Honda's recommendation has far less to do with the actual chemistry of their factory fill oil than with marketing. They want to claim "no need" for early changes. Which is true... you don't NEED to. But its better IMO
However, as others have said, its just not going to make a difference. The interior of the car will fall apart long before the internally lubricated engine parts, or you'll get bored silly with it. Either way, a lubrication failure isn't going to end your ownership of that car.

I'll do a used oil analysis. Which lab should I be using. I have bee wanting to do this for years on the buick 3.1 V6. There are a lot of very short drives using amsoil 5w30 for this vehicle
Back when my mom had a 1999 CRV, she had the FF drained and filled at 3,000 miles, despite being told never to change it before 3,750 miles. What a shame the car got wrecked, it could have been a example to prove or disprove the need for Honda's special factory fill.
