2011 honda crv 4wd 0w20 factory fill. How long should I run the factory fill we have almost 700mi. The owners manual says to run it until the MM says so. What do you think about leaving it in and how long. Going to use Amsoil 0w20 and wix filter unless there is something better.

I'd probably dump it around the 3,000 mile mark. The MM (maintenance minder?) will probably make you take it out quite a bit farther.

I was kind of thinking the same around 2500-3000 miles. I dumped the FF on the 09 civic at 1800 miles used Amsoil and wix until we traded in on this purchase. Leaving it in that long makes me a little nervous.

If it were me, I'd go half of the normal recommended interval for the first change. If it's got an oil life monitor, I would change it at 50%. Or if the normal recommended OCI is 10,000 miles, I would do the first change at 5k.

Honda is one of very few manufactures insist on full OCI for the factory fill, they said their factory fill is special with very high moly count that you can not buy over the counter. I would go the full OCI with Honda factory fill.

IMO the used oil analysis indicate that it is something special and should be left in there the whole time.

I'm inclined to agree with Honda on this, especially given their ridiculous reliability records.

My 2010 Chevy Equinox also says to run even the factory fill until the OLM says to change it. I changed it at about 40% left.

I guess their legendary reliability is why Honda dealerships have such massive service departments. Lol!!!
More propaganda. Maybe Honda should start building nuclear reactors if they are so darn good!!

They have massive service departments because there are so many of their cars still on the road! Admit it, there are tons of old 1980s Civics and Accords running around....

I went with Honda's suggestion of 5K on my 2005 Accord 4 cyl. Never had any bad things occur because of it. The car never used oil.

I'm just going to go ahead and say I see TONS of early late 80's, early 90's Honda vehicles on the road still, not so much of the domestics earlier than 1999ish..

And when I go to the Honda dealer for MTF the service bays are pretty empty, but I will say they have more than the GM dealers..

Honda does have a special FF that you cannot buy, I would follow their recommendations on the first OCI.

Honda made some very good vehicles in the 90s. The domestics? Not so much. But that doesn't have anything to do with initial quality today.

+1

Dump it at the 1K mark

CRV, maybe you and I should do used oil analysis on the Honda FF whenever we decide to change it. Our Accord V6 has 2000 miles with the MM still at 80% (95% city driving and short trips). After all this speculation, I'm kinda curious. I did purchase some Honda Gen-u-ine 0W-20 Full Synthetic (plus OE filters and crush washers) for the first two OCs. BTW, I've seen VOAs on the newer Honda oils, the -9037 mentioned above and the -9036 semi. The makeup appears unremarkable with perhaps the exception of ~200ppm of boron but they're SN oils so maybe they have that secret add pack none of the labs can see.
