So I am having a hard time deciding what oil to use. The bike has 2k miles on it and has used dino oil thus far. The problem I am having is everywhere I read (and I do plenty of it) says that you should stick to KawaChem motor oil for your bike. This seems a bit ignorant to me because the reason people say this I find has no backing. It's usually so far so good..... or ....I have heard horror stories about XXXXXXX oil....etc etc.

That is their sticky on oil thread, and for some reason I just find it ignorant. Of course choosing an oil for people can be like telling them how to raise a child...but these people have no proof, on their beliefs.

My latest read is: http://www.amsoil.com/lit/g2156.pdf

Very good information, I just wonder how if any was swayed towards their oil to sell it. I mean look at the people running the test.

I guess I would just appriciate some pointers in choosing an oil for my bike...and want to know how accurate the information in the pdf really can be?

KawaChem is probably decent, but not really any better than another cheap dino MC oil, like valvoline or castrol. I know at my local dealer, all oils (HP4, yamalube, ect) are $4+. Too me thats a rip off and if I was gonna use dino, I'd go down to any parts place and buy valvoline or castrol MC oil for around $3.

Thats the biggest thing to remember. If you want a high end oil thats easy to find I would recomend Mobil MX4T. After shipping its cheaper than any of the stuff you can mail order and you can find it at most parts places. At ten bucks a quart, it aint cheap, but none of the high end MC oils are. I think the test are accurate, but they can cherry pick the tests and competitors.

I have to agree with SLM that MX4T is an optin worth giving strong consideration because it is generally available on the shelves of many stores, and because the Mobil line of sythetic oils seem to be well thought of by many riders. Good luck.

I'm running Amsoil MCF 10w40 in my 07 GSXR600 and have been pleased with how it sounds and shifts. Next time I may use dino Rotella 15w40 just to see if I notice any difference. With 3000 mile OCI I don't think I need Amsoil.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was thinking along the same line as the responses, I just kind of wanted some reassurance

I came across some of this oil and have heard nothing but good things (even prior to reading the article posted) so I picked it up.

I too noticed smoother sound (Kawasaki's have a distinct tick) and much smoother shifting at high rpm. At first I was thinking it was all in my head, but the previous owner of the bike noticed a difference as well.

Most of Amsoil's published results come from testing at San Antonio's Southwest Research Institute, an independent non profit lab. http://www.swri.org/ . They run standard ASTM oil tests that can be duplicated in any certified lab. None of the named competitor oil companies have disputed the data, so the test results are likely valid. Go with one of the top rated oils in the test.
