K98 Mauser Value

I'd pay that for it. Just keep in mind you'll be buying a "contract" K98 that wasn't made by Mauser. That affects its status as a collectible. If this was a K98 made by Mauser at Oberndorf you'd probably see a $500+ price on it.

Lots of M48's out there being sold as K98's. Learn the difference and make sure you are getting what you pay for. Mitchell's is famous for selling the 48s as 98s.

I honestly had not even thought about it being a contract gun vs. an actual Mauser. Good Point. I have various other mil-surp rifles and a Yugo M48. There are just so many variations of the k98 and it seems like even the russian capture's are bringing $300 and this one looks a lot nicer than those.

The rifle he's looking at is a WWII K98, just made by Sauer instead of Mauser.

Thats about right for the K98 with the proofs. I have a K98 with the swasikas on it and a M48(its a Mitchell) one of his reconditioned ones. The K98s are alot nicer rifle. Alot of people are buying them up like crazy, since they dont know what to buy and want to invest their money. They had three crates of them in a gun shop near my house and a guy was rooting through the box, I asked him if he was looking for a special manufacture code and he said no, just a nice one, he had three of them sitting on the side, I asked how the bores looked and he said whats that, I just walked away. Sooner that later all these guns are going to get dumped back on the market by people that have no interest in and they will find out they bought them like houses in the peak.
