I had the first valve adjustment done on our trusty 2007 K24 Accord (purchased new) yesterday. Mileage is 190,000 kms (118,000 miles). The mechanic told me that the intake valves were mostly ok, but the exhaust valves were a bit tight. It runs a bit smoother now (especially cold) and also feels a tad more responsive.
I haven't done a valve adjustment in decades (Honda motorcycles), so I thought better to have my mechanic do this one. He snapped these photos for me. Had a brake fluid flush done as well.
Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w30 since 50k kms. Mobil 1 5W-20 then a few 0W-20 OCI's before 50k kms. OCI is typically 7500 kms in the summer, although I have gone 10,000 kms a few times in the summer when we did long highway trips. Winter OCI's are usually 5000 kms.
It has barely seen the highway for the last 2.5 years, since we retired and moved to the city. All short trips and city driving now.

One of the best engines Honda ever made.....IMO

Can you catch your nail on those marks on cylinder 3 exhaust cam lobe?
I noticed that too. Make a mental note to adjust and check it in 50K miles. But given the K24's legendary reputation, I don't think that engine or valve train will even care or notice. Adjust the valves again in 50K miles - and I bet the cam lobe will look the same and the valve will still be in proper adjustment.

I didn't get a good look at the photos until it was buttoned up, but I noticed those marks as well. There are 'scuff like' marks on two of the exhaust lobes that I can see. The engine sounded good before the adjustment, with no excessive tapping and it sounds good now since the adjustment.
Maybe the marks are a result of leaving the valve adjustment a little too long, and those particular exhaust valves having too tight clearance? Or, the photos make those marks appear more prominent than they actually are?

I'll do that, I have no plans to ever sell the Honda. Our kids will be stuck with it after we're gone! :D

K24 is a great engine, but that one is even better, It has a guide running across the top of the cam gears. My 13' K24 does not have that. You def got one of the best K24's ever made. It will just keep going. Just keep up on the maintenance and it'll run forever
