K@N oil filters

I’m using the same.
Mobil 1 and a K&N HP-2004 at 6 month/7500 mile (12,000km) intervals.

The K&N filters are very good. But I agree they are over priced.
However if you watch for sales at Canadian Tire you can get a good deal.

For instance…this week I picked up the K&N HP-2004 for sale price of $12.50, versus the usual price of $17.99.
I don’t mind paying 12.50 when the usual price on the Fram XG (synthetic) filters is 10 bucks anyways.

The Canadian Tire stores around me don't sell them. I change the oil and filter much more often than you. I do it at 3 months or 5000 Kilometers. After reading about the drain intervals some are doing I am clearly overkill with mine.

The Mobil 1 and Purolator Pure One filters would be my choices before the K&N filter.

Hi there, first post for me here. I have been reading for about a week and can't believe the amount of info on this site.

Anyway my question is about K@N oil filters. From what I have read on here it seems they are considered good filters but overpriced. Am I correct in assuming this? I use them because I can get them locally here in Canada and I don't mind the price. Also they are a breeze to install and remove. I drive a 2003 Toyota Celica GTS. I live in Ontario Canada and it gets very cold in the winter and very hot in the summer. I use Mobil 1 Super Syn 5w30. See any problems with is? Can i do better? Car has 32000 Kilometers on it.

How do you know they filter better?

I need visual proof before I spend $10+ on an oil filter.

What's my reasoning?

Too many vehicles on this website that have obtained over 300K using sub-$5 Frams, Purolators, Motorcrafts & AC Delco.

K&N don't filter better. They flow better, although Purolator Premium Plus flows better and filters better. Napa Gold, either Purolator Premium PLus or PureOne are better choices for less money.

Granted, but how often will I drive my car through a concrete wall?

All that proves is that the metal can is rugged, it says nothing about its ability to flow or filter well.

I have used 4 different filters on my 89 Taurus SHO. The 2 out of 4 that I have settled on is the K&N and the mobil 1. I made the Mobil 1 my first choice with the K&N as backup in case I cant get a mobil 1. Before I made the switch, I religiously used the K&N. They are awesome filters that flow great, filter great and are built like tanks. It has been said that if you throw a K&N at a concrete wall, you will chip the wall. They are solid filters. Overpriced? Maybe, but if you like them for whatever reason, then buy them. I switched to the Mobil 1 because its bigger and has slightly better flow and filtration numbers. Its also $1 cheaper than the K&N, which would still leave the filter at $11(US)
