NAPA purchased UAP (United Auto Parts) here in Canada a while back. I just happened to stop in today and they had a brand new display of various K&N air and oil filters, they will now be carrying K&N and WIX exclusively I am told.

I had them price out an oil filter for a Taurus with 3.0L V-6, = $17.29 Canadian, that is roughly $12.50 U.S funds.

No mention of extended mileage usage on it and parts guy did not even have a clue.

Are these good for the extended 7500 miles / 12000 km oil changes using Mobil 1 OR Amsoil.

What about the standard Wix filters any better, any worse.

I can also get Fram X2 Extended Life XG series filters good for 7000 miles or 11,000 kms for $9.00 Canadian or roughly $6.30 u.s. per unit.

Any thoughts ?

I'm running the Wix 51516 (same filter for your model Taurus) in my SHO on a 7,500-8,000 mile interval with no problems. Wix makes a fine filter and would use them any day over K&N..especially at lil over half the cost.

Don't buy the K&N oil filter from them! Wait for Canadian Tire to have their sales, which seem to be every 4-6 weeks, and they'll sell them for $13.59. They just had a sale last week and I picked up two more filters for my Corvette (they had to special order them though since they never keep them in stock)

The CTC's around here do not carry K&N on the shelves, unless it is under another brand name.

The Wix filter has a silicone ADBV. I haven't cut apart a K&N, but tend to like Champion filters' construction a bit better.
