K&N Million Mile Warranty

Our Civic has had a K&N intake and filter on it for about 7 years and I recently noticed that the weld had failed on the mounting tab.

Since K&N proudly promotes it's million mile warranty I thought that I would contact them to see if they would make good on it. K&N clearly states that I must have the original purchase receipt (which I don't have) to make a warranty claim.

Figuring that I had nothing to lose, I contacted them via email to see if I could get a warranty replacement. The odds are probably pretty low that they would replace the part but what the heck?

So what do you betting guys put my odds at?

My experience was with a drop-in filter that was cracking seriously around the edges, but should be similar. I didn't have my receipt, either. They did ask where, and the approximate date that I bought it. I didn't have any trouble getting a new one, the guy that helped me by email was helpful and competent.

It looks like you had the heat turned up too high when you made that weld. Turn it down a little when you do the new one.

I've heard that the Customer Service folks at K&N are pretty helpful, so I would imagine that you have a good chance at them replacing it for you.

I bet the rubber bushing got hard and cracked, and the engine's vibration slowly wore that bracket out.

Are those scratches on the intake tube just above the bracket break from the broken end of the bracket? If so, you have some major vibration issues or your motor mounts are shot and the engine is seriously twisting under load. That may also void the warranty because most warranties are for materials and workmanship, not breakage due to abuse.

They replaced a K&N Filter for me with no receipts. I promptly sold it, but it came with the vehicle i bought and it was damaged upon inspection. Good customer service, all i had to do was send them a bunch of pictures of it.

Thats an interesting observation and it prompted be to open the hood to take another look. The scratches do indeed seem to have been produced by the tab after the weld broke.

However, there are only two points where it is attached to the car. The point where it attaches to the intake and the mounting tab in question. Both of them are connected directly to the engine so if there was undue torsional movement or twisting then the intake would move with the engine.

We bought this car new and it has survived two teenage drivers and has over 200k on the odo so it has not been babied. It has been a rock as far as reliability and I just had a new set of Michelin Defender tires mounted on it about a month ago so I expect it to last at least a couple more years.

Well well well, look what showed up on my doorstep the other day.

I have to give K&N kudos for standing behind their product.

I think that I am going to order a new K&N air filter for my recently acquired evo era Sportster.

The customer service interaction was conducted exclusively via email and they did request pictures of their intake on my car.

I understand the issues regarding their filters but in appropriate applications, I love 'em!

There seems to be a 3/8" gap between the weld and the tab; does it require a lot of pressure to close it? Just wondering if there is a fair amount of pulling force on the tab and if that will cause the new one to fail as well over time.
