I live up in the Rockies (8,500' alt.) and our winters get really cold, sub zero temps a lot of mornings. I know the Mobil 1 filter is more efficient but, with those cold temps, does the greater flow of the K&N make it the better choice in winter for my '07 F150? I'm running Mobil 1 5w20. Thanks!

No, especially using Mobil 1 5w20.

No, it doesn't.

The new K&N filters are low-quality cheap Korean garbage. Nowhere near worth their selling price. When they switched suppliers and cheapened the filter, they didn't lower the price or pass the savings on to the customer. Also, some people with the new K&N have reported leaks from the welded nut.

Mobil 1 is MUCH better. In fact, K&N used to be identical to the Mobil 1 before the offshoring. Mobil 1 filters are made by Fram in Albion, IL.

I'll have an upcoming UOA doing 10K on the oil and 20K on the Mobil 1 oil filter. It will be at about 150K total miles. Should be interesting.

What do you expect to see? I bet the UOA would come back the same without a filter at all.

I recently purchased and installed a K&N HP-2011 on my car. It was made in Mexico. Does that mean it's an older version or are some still made there?

Mine has louvers in the center tube and looks like a reddish colored filter media with a silicone ADBV. Aside from reports of leaks from the welded on nut, what is different with the Korean versions? Anything material? I can't imagine K&N getting them made in Korea for less than in Mexico.

I only bought it because my little walmart was out of the FL500S and all versions of the Fram 10575. Rather than going to an auto parts store, I decided to spend the big bucks on the K&N. Now that I have one, I'm trying to learn about them.

The Korean and Mexican versions are both the newer version from the Korean company. When they first got the K&N contract, they started making the cans in Mexico, then eventually moved to Korea (the cartridges were always made in Korea since the takeover). The old ones were US-made and identical to Mobil 1 (Fram/Champ factory in Albion, IL)

Never mind my post above...^^^

Just watched a few vids about the leaks at the welded nut. I'm going to pass on the K&N from now on. I'll go back to MC FL500s or a Fram. Too bad.

Thanks for that! I missed your post. As I mentioned above, I will drop the K&N. I appreciate the heads up!
