K&N as pre-filter???

i have a k&n hotrod aftermarket air filter on my ute, and am now wondering about the sense in using it with the varying experiences folk have had.
could i use the k&n as a pre-filter and fit a suitable paper filter inside. reason being that i like the big chrome look that it has, but some doubt as to its effectiveness. thanx in advance, johnny

There was a well written online paper several years ago where someone tried K&N filters as pre-filters on off road construction equipment. IIRC, the oil that came off the K%N caused problems with the paper filters.

If you hooked it up as a double system in series, there would be restriction, for sure, at WOT.
