I have a 2006 Mazda 6 w/ the 3.0 V6, the dealership says the car will not operate properly on a K&N air filter and that I will have problems with my idle and the check engine light will come on. Is anybody familiar with this? It makes no sense to me. I have used a K&N on all my cars in the past w/ excellent results. He said the car only works w/ Mazda air filters. Hard to believe since Autozone had 4 aftermarket filters. What are your thoughts? Is it ok to add the K&N?

First off i'd never go back to that dealership. There's nothing special about the 3.0 Duratec so the K&N should work fine. The only time you might have trouble is if you over oil it. That would mess up the maf.

And we all wonder why automotive dealerships have such a perception of being full of horse turds.

I particularly love the Mazda only air filter non sense. Surprised they don't have a gas pump at that dealer marked Mazda only, with 5 buck gas!

I put the K&N in today and no check engine light, better accelration and the dealership does not know what theyre talking about.

I installed a K&N in my 00 Mazda 3.0L. After 3-4 months my check engine light came on. I found out that the oil from the filter had built-up on the MAP sensor wire. I removed the sensor, carefully cleaned the wire, reset the computer, and all was normal. I replaced the KN with an Amsoil EaO.

The stock Mazda6 airbox is really restrictive. You will gain NOTHING by using a K&N filter. The only way you will see gains is by performing the air-box mod or installing a cold-air intake. If you need proof, head over to the mazda6 forums and read away.

I installed the K&N filter and the car did not run right and the gas mileage was horrid, I put the factory filter in and the car is running perfect. I was very dissappointed w/ the results, I have always had good luck in the past w/ K&N filters.

I'm trying out a K@N air filter on a old (1987) mazda b2000 pickup, it's a xmas present so I figured I'd give it a shot, the truck has a carb and is pretty basic so maybe it won't hurt anything, I'll comment on my results as far as MPG goes after a few hundred miles.
