I could never flip a car in the same year i bought it, even if i seriously regretted buying it, the financial pain would be even greater.

Absolutely. My driving is usually all short trips around town, never much highway driving. But this is all suburban roads so it's not exactly cit driving either.

On the versa I tracked my MPG with ever single tank of gas I put in it since the day I bought it. I believe the EPA on the versa 6spd is 26city 31hwy and I was always right in that range. The lowest I hit around town was 24mpg and if I'd baby the car to the fullest I would hit 28-29mpg.

On the hwy the 31mpg was pretty much spot on, the highest I ever hit was 33.5mpg and I was keeping things under 70mph for the trip.

The golf keeps track of your estimated miles per tank and mpg on each trip. So far I've been hitting 26-26.5mpg on every trip. If that's the case it'll be right in line with the versa and for hwy I think I will do even better based on how it's geared.

It's weird how this stuff can be so enjoyable for some people lol.

They gave you a great deal on the trade of the Versa, but did they get you on the other end on the price of the VW. I find that's where they usually make it up.

Sticker price on the golf was 20k flat. I got it for 16,700. Out the door it was about 17,500. I was okay with it.

Do you VAG 405 scanner for it yet? I found a great deal on it (shipped under $60). I am envious of it as it gives access to *everything* on a VW.

You made the right transmission choice!

Cool ride!!

This one is on my short list of cars to replace our aging battle Civic. But I gotta ask....

Did you consider, or look at a TDI?

Oh I would have definitely considered it but it was a little out of my price range.

In Canada the TDI will run you about 2-3K more.

Just a little MPG update. Finally filled the tank since I bought the car. I averaged 25.1 MPG and that was all around town suburban driving. No straight hwy roads at all. I was easy on the car but not too easy for those first 250 miles.

I was averaging from 26-28mpg with the versa in the same driving conditions depending on how I drove it. I'm pretty happy so far and I think it will do pretty well on the hwy based on how it's geared.

I test drove a new Golf 2.5 DSG yesterday. I really liked the way it drove, except the throttle seemed a bit like an on/off switch from idle. The engine sounds a bit coarse, also. The transmission was surprisingly good--smooth, but quick to downshift when needed. I'm 5'10" and there's enough rear leg room to "sit behind myself".
My local dealer didn't have a 4 door TDI. but if I find one........

Golf 2.5 isn't available with a DSG. It was a regular automatic trans with Tiptronic that you drove. DSG is only available on the GTI and TDI.

My buddy was in the market for a new car and saw my Golf and liked the way it looked and called me the next day telling me is going to get a 4 door TDI. I was happy since I'm getting a $200 referral check

. I have to say though my friend is spending a lot of money on this car. They basically didn't budge on the sticker price and ended up paying 28k before taxes and tags. I personally couldn't justify that kind of money even if I was getting great fuel economy. Those TDIs are fun to drive. You gotta love all that torque the diesels make.

Save the money from the oil change & buy a better car seat. I personally won't use anything other than Britax now after some failures I've heard about. It is anecdotal though.

I used GC0w30 once in our old Rabbit, the rest I let someone else do.

I imagine they always used 5w40 Syntec. I just wish we had 170HP version!

NICE!

One month in and I just filled my tank for the 3rd time. 25.1, 24.3, 25. All the fills were really close to that 25mpg mark. I have yet to take the car for a long hwy drive. All my drives were around town, decent amount of traffic and lights but these are suburban roads. The second fill I really gave the 2.5 a little work out the last 50 miles of that tank. Lots of fun hilly backroads. No redlining but all my shifts were in the 3500-4750 range.

So far I am just enjoying every second I spend in the new Golf. The interior is really great all around, awesome seats, surprisingly good stereo. The ride is a real joy. The car feels incredibly solid, especially when taking a turn a little too hard. The MT shifts like butter, best shifter I've experienced in a car under 20k.

Hopefully reliability issues don't come up during my time owning it. Consumer reports rates the rabbit and 2.5 golf's reliability very high.

One complaint though which I experienced in other VW's, the power windows move too slooooooow. Underpowered motors? I experienced that nightmare multiple times with my camaro.

Congratulations on your new Golf. Ive always liked them allot personaly. Im considering one for my next ride, long term realiabity kinda scares me though...You hear that the Golf is more reliable then other VW models, but you hear some much negative regaurding electrical issues with VW overall...
