so ive never used high mielage oil always rotella t6, mobil1 ep, castrol edge penzoil platinum. so im thinking maybe it would be better for me to change to a high mileage oil even though technicaly the base wouldntbe as good as the above mentioned. two questions, its a gm 3400 car year is 2004. entire car along with engine babied. so if i do high mileage should i go 10w-30 or 5w-30 and the only high mileage full synthetic out here ive seen is mobil1 high mileage i know valvoline makes one but its not anywhere where i live. suggestions appretiated. and i live in nys

Use what you have been using. If it isn't broke don't try to change it up. HM oil is mostly marketing, save yourself the worry and stick with what has worked. If your not having problems stick to the recommended 5w30 or 10w30 recommended by the owners manual.

knock on wood no problems i figured because of the seal conditioners and additives?

Forget about the oil.

Take it to the best mechanic you know and get the intake manifold gaskets replaced.

Nothing magical happens at 100,000 miles. Nothing magical about High Mileage oil, either. Just continue regular oil changes with the same stuff you've been using.

Use the same oil you've been using as long as everything is well.

ok thanks:) any disadvantage to switching to a high mileage oil?

No need for HM oils unless you are trying to "fix" something that is not correct. And most of the time the "problems" people are using HM oil for can not be fixed by a oil, they are just delaying the problem temporarily or there really is not a problem.

I've run the same type of oil up to 394,000 miles before the vehicle's life ended using normal 10-w30 then 5w-30 when it came out.

Ran perfect till the end..

Take care, bill

Exactly. The only time I used HM oils was in my 4.9L Ford that leaked and knocked. In the summer, I used HDEO, and went to a high mileage oil simply to get the better viscosity for our winters. Summer rolls around, HDEO went back in.

Now, it's rebuilt, and with no leaks and no knocks, there's no reason to use a high mileage oil anymore.
