And cliff notes:

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Sept. 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Green Earth Technologies, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board:GETG.ob - News), a leading manufacturer and marketer of "green" environmentally safer consumer packaged goods and products, announced today that its new formulas for both G-OIL® 5w30 and 5W-20 ultimate biodegradable bio-based full synthetic GREEN motor oils have received API SM certifications.

Ah... new formulations and now a 5W-20. Cool.

But if they stick with current pricing and don't continue the FAR rebates, I think most people will grab the name they know (i.e. Mobil, Valvoline, Pennzoil) when looking at the shelf.

Looks like an error in the press release. The first sentance says SM certification, which they have had for some time. The body of the press release talks about surpassing SN and GF-5 requirements. That makes more sense. The release goes on to say that product with the SN cert will go to production in the fall.

Along with a price increase, I'm sure, to cover the cost of getting the new certification.

I don't think it's an error, if you read further it says:

"The new reformulated G-OIL 5W-20 and 5w30 bio-based full synthetic motor oil is expected to go into production this fall and will be priced the same as the current G-OIL 5w30, which retails between $6.43 and $7.99 per quart."

So it's a new formulation of 5w30 that just became SM certified as well as a new 5w-20 product.

I think it's just the donut if I'm recalling correctly. I can confirm tonight.

Yep, just the donut indicating API SERVICE SM. The donut does not indicate resource conserving or energy conserving. There is no starburst on the packaging. The label on the back says, "the world's first and only American Petroleum Institute's (API) "SM" Certified bio-based motor oil."

The color scheme is also a big turn-off.

I am fine with it I figure if its the same price as other sythetics then may as well help the planet a little right? I cant wait until reatiler like AZ and AAP get it and make an offer with a filter for that like all other synthetics

I emailed G Oil.

They wrote they are API SM for 5w30 and 5w-20 also. This is a new formulation. They are currently doing tests for SN and GF-5 certification.

I would have posted the email, but they have a little blurb basically asking not to.
