Have you actually read that list ? Sure there are lots of countries with higher homicide rates than the US, but look where they are! Check out Western Europe, Britain, Australia and New Zealand....or maybe just the countries where people drive on the left, there must be something in it.

USA - 4.8

NZ - 0.9

It's crazy, isn't it.

10mm glocks have never, ever been legal for "civilians", but are all over the drive bys ... how can that happen ?

Anyone with a scanner hears "going to 21 jump street to do a gun safe inspection 10:4 good buddy, roger that", and 21 jump street is identified to the crims as a place with firearms, whether the registry was compromised or not (and it was)

Wait just a minute.

Are you saying your criminals are declining to abide by the gun laws that your legislatures have imposed on your population?

That's not very sporting of them.

Sprintman, I hope Americans will grow up and get over the silliness that it is a civil right to wander the streets insane, and go back to institutionalizing people whose mental state makes them a threat to themselves or others.

Just put the BC in the water and require a license to get the antidote!

Sprintman always has a great one liner. But the whole root of this "problem" is that we are just being fed by the media who support a certain agenda.

Thus we get huge sensationalized coverage while other stories are not even reported on. Tends to skew the perception a bit....

Oh, so your country never has any [gun] violence, oh wait...

By the way. All sailors are trained to handle firearms just as all sailors are trained to fight fires.

Completely agree with your first point.

His firearms training, in Reserve boot camp, was likely minimal...and as an Aviation Electrician's Mate, he likely never handled one again...

Most likely true. I don't think the Navy is big on firearms training for most enlisted rates any more.

What gets me are the claims for more regulation.

Walmart has enough non regulated ingredients to kill everyone in the store or give them scorched lungs.

Jesus, even our pathetic local law enforcement passed out pamphlets to school administrators post 9/11 about simple household chemicals to check students for.

Our high school chemistry lab was used on more than one occassion to make a huge homecoming "firework"

You can't regulate insanity...psychos will always kill people...and personally I'm thankful they haven't figured out that guns aren't the most efficient way of mass murder.

Yes we do of course - but by the way the excuses in this thread are going it appears we have less insane people with access to guns.

+1,000,000 This should be emailed to EVERY anti-gun legislator there is.

The problem is "sense" is never common! We should call it "uncommon sense" instead...

VERY true!

One of the problems is that society has become used to ignoring people with mental issues. There is a big difference between segregating people with mental issues and viewing them as threats, and pulling them aside when necessary and giving them the proper care/assistance they need. Pretending they are okay, and not helping them deal with their problems is just as bad as segregating them and labeling them as "deviant".

I know people who have had severe depression, anger issues, addictions, home problems, etc, and have completely turned their lives around with the use of therapy. Is therapy the ultimate answer to every problem? Of course not, but turning a blind eye to these problems only makes these individual's lives much worse, and their potential to cause harm to themselves and others much greater. Out of all the mass shootings that have happened, it never surprises me when the individual who committed the shooting had known issues in the past that were never dealt with properly. By then it is too late to say "gee, we should have done something to help them", after others have suffered and/or lost their lives because of it.

It would seem almost criminal that they were treated and released without qualification! Innocent folks have to die first?

New system desperately needed...
