I don't know much about cars, but that's why I'm here. I have 2 questions that developed when I was bored and looking at my engine.

Is the ENTIRE engine supposed to rotate 1 or 2 degrees when I put my foot on the gas, even lightly?

Why does it sound like I have a blowoff valve any time I put my foot on the gas as well?

Again, I don't know anything. I have to learn somewhere don't I? Edit: 2012 Subaru Impreza 2.0i CVT

Yes, it isn't bolted directly to the chassis but instead mounted with rubber mounts that insulate vibration. If it weren't so then there would be problems with normal vibrations from the engine rattling the whole car. The rubber mountings necessarily allow the engine to move just a bit.

How can you see the engine rotate from the drivers seat? You cant blip the throttle underhood. If you had an wrx with a stick I would tell you you hammered it and broke the motor mount ( common). IDK about a blowoff valve noise. How do you know what a blowoff valve is or sounds like? Buddy have a Mitsu or Subie turbo?

- Why are you concerned about normal sounds on a new car? Is it acting up? Just check the oil weekly but otherwise keep the hood closed.

Step 1. Lift hood.
Step 2. Look through gap between windshield and back edge of hood. Engine will be visible through gap.
Step 3. Step on throttle and watch engine torque.

Simple, eh?

Or have a long foot and stand outside the car with the door open and you can still reach the pedal. But yeah that works.

And I'm not concerned. I'm like a little kid that can't stop asking questions. If I don't get my answer then I won't know, and if someone else asks me the same thing I won't be able to answer.

You're supposed to put 50 grit sandpaper in the gas tank right? Someone told me 100 but I read that was only for BMWs..

Ill tell you a big mistake I made reading here but REALY knowing better - LiquiMoly Moly engine treatment. Might as well be 100 grit ... The Honda tin can may make it through but im not entirey sure ... Now pass me some of that synthtree youve been hittin

As far as the blow-off valve sound; my 2 cents: Another way to think of an internal combustion engine is that it's one big air pump. It just happens to add fuel to the air to keep itself running. If you do the math, you'll find a typical engine moves a LOT of air during normal operation. The sound is probably from somewhere in the intake. They all make some sort of "whooshing" sound. The old 4-barrel carburetors made some really cool sounds when the secondaries opened-up... Ah, the sound of power!

If you are flooring the car while parked and hear that sound it is probably the rev limiter kicking in.

Nah. Actually the harder I push it the more the sound goes away. Sounds like some kind of valve that only opens slightly when I put my foot down just a little, probably making it whistle, and when it's fully open it doesn't have anything to make a whistle.

Is this a drunk post?

Oh, I hope so because I'm about as close to being drunk as I've been in years and it would be nice to blame it on the thread.
