Looking at Plus-50 John Deere oil for use in my street car. It's got a flat tappet cam with high spring pressure so the low ZDDP level fiasco is a concern.

Any thoughts on this stuff. Looks like they are CI-4 rated yet.

Thanks.

According to the VOA, the Zinc and Phosphorus levels are at or above the old CI-4 Rotella I used to run. What makes Deere oil inferior?

I have no problem running Royal Purple or Brad Penn in this car too, the reason I became interested in the Deere oil is because we are a Deere dealership and I get it for cost. ;-D

Thanks.

And what is the cost of your street car?

Cost of the motor is my street car isn't near as much as my race car motor, but none the less I don't want my cam going flat in 2000 miles either.

Just curious why it doesn't stack up against an old CI-4 Rotella or the Delo.

Thanks.

Slowmobile, if you are from Canada (if not then I am no help here) then John Deere Plus 50 in synthetic is Esso XD3 HDEO, group IV POA, I believe it is also XD3 Esso in conv. 15-40 too, if you are from America then John Deere oil is from another source.

XD3 is in many brands of oil like UFA Polar Plus in syn oil, John Deere Plus 50 (Canada), last I heard the HDEO conv oil in Motorcraft (Canada) Ford was going to XD3 in their bottling too. Super Store once carried XD3 conv 15-40 too in XD3. XD3 is around in a few different lables.

I know about John Deere Plus being XD3 because many of my agricultural clients run John Deeres and I like talking oils with agricultural diesel owners, they all tell me PLUS 50 is XD3 from Esso XD3.

I use XD3 syn HDEO oil in my gassers, I used the 0-30 syn, great oil.
