Job Recruiters??

Now that I'm the hunt for another job I'm getting phone and email bombs from staffing companies searching resume keywords from the usual resume posting sites (Monster, etc.).

Not that this is a bad thing but I'm getting an uneasy feeling about these contacts.

All of the contacts are from different individuals (judging from their accent they're all from India), from the same two or three staffing firms, for the same one or two jobs.

What makes me uneasy is that on the few occasions that I have actually spoken to a "recruiter", I've been told not to duplicate my application for this job because companies will automatically reject my application. When I question the individual why I am getting contacted by different individuals from YOUR staffing firm regarding the SAME position all I get is "uh...uh...uh....."

I even Google mapped the address of one of the firms that was located in New Jersey and the street view showed a Dunkin' Donuts shop.

I guess I'm just bewildered (for lack of a better term) at how low job recruiting has gotten. It's making it bad for the legit recruiters that are busting their humps for people searching and the the companies that are hiring.

For me, SOP is finding the job myself or through personal contacts and friends.

Well, a lot of Dunkin' Donuts ARE owned by Indian immigrants... As Joe Biden says, unless ya have a slight Indian accent... Lol

Seriously, I feel your pain. Recently a woman applied for a loan and made inquiries about colleges online, and (I assume) accidentally entered my tel. #. For a few weeks, I was getting up to 20-25 phone calls a day from Indians, congratulating me on being approved for my loan.

When I would tell them they had the wrong no. and attempt to ask to be put on their do-not-call list, half the time they would hang up before giving me the chance to ask. Then I'd receive another call from the same no. a few hrs. later.

One time I was admonished by one of them in caps to ONLY RESPOND IF I AM INTERESTED IN THE POSITION, when I politely responded I'm not interested.

I believe these guys only care about collecting a, dunno, $500 finder's fee for each person who gets the job. They don't know nor care if you are qualified or not. They'll ask for a Word copy of your resume and rewrite it to match the job posting.

Seems there are three phases:
1) Those who pay big money to Monster and contact you very quickly, 1-2 days max after you update your profile.

2) Those who barely pay money and contact you at the 1st of the month after you post.

3) Those with no money. They contact you months/years later, long after you've found a job. Who knows how they got the leads. They don't ever trim their database.

Just google, "indian recruiters" and you can read all kinds of stories. Most of them bad.

I get a lot of the same. I prefer to go through local shops. There are millions of them. Their recruiters typically look quite nice.
