wow - just watched it. Nothing beats doing things yourself these days

I will never go to a Jiffy Lube ever again in my life even if I start hurting so bad with arthritis that I can't stand it. I went to a Jiffy Lube to have the oil changed in my car and some of the change I had in my car was stolen. How low is that-some small change?

One time at a Grease Money I caught the employees trying to switch Mystik 10W-40 conventional oil (it was not even the right viscosity) for the Mobil 1 I had brought in.

Easier just to change your own oil even if you have arthritis.

Yeah, that's pretty sickening. I took the company car to JL to have just the basic oil change done last weekend, and just made sure to say no to all the additional junk they tried to sell me (fuel filter, tranny fluid, wipers). The funniest thing was when they tried to tell me that my coolant was low. Well, the coolant was half way betw. min and max, and that was on a not warmed up engine (I'm just down the block from them).

Anyway, if it was my own car, I would never take it there.

OMFG!!!
Man i would never think stuff like this happends here in US.
They try to pool s**t like this on my gf car. They told her that rotors need to be replaced because they were rusted, I told here to poot the guy on the phone. He started saing some nonsence. I was lafing the hol time he tried to explaing. Then I told him that he was a retard.
Man s**t like this makes my blood boil.

A friend of mine took her car to the dealer for service, and they sold her a complete set of new rotors and drums to cure the brake pulsation. The car only has about 22000 miles on it.

Unfortunately this happens in every business these days. I used to be a mechanic and saw stuff like this. Now Im in construction and I cant find someone who takes pride in their work for the life of me. People are perfectly happy doing a [censored] job, and going home. If you confront them they deny or have a blank stare. Whats wrong with people these days?

I like the statement from iffylube that states that they would "take actions to make sure that this doesn't happen in the future". "this" could be defined as "cheating customers" or "getting caught cheating customers".

It's just so easy to have fraud when john q public doesn't know anything about cars anymore.

Darn right they won't let it happen again. A memo will go out instructing all Jiffy wrenchers to look more closely for hidden cameras before screwing the customer.

What their informant says is very true. How many people who drive in even know where their fuel filter is or what it looks like? Easy pickings.

Very few people even know where to look for their fuel filter. Wonder how many millions of dollars companies have made "changing" the fuel filter. I think I'll draw a big red and pink pokadotted mouse on my fuel filter - even take a knife/rock and make a mark on it in several places - lol if that doesn't get changed I should know

I was walking across the parking lot where I work last night and came across a receipt that had fallen out of someone's car. The receipt was from a local Honda car dealership. The customer got their oil changed, tires rotated and the two fronts balanced, and the fluids were topped off.

The cost: $136.30. The vehicle had a total of 12,564 miles on it and was purchased in April of this year.

This is going to be a expensive vehicle if this guy continues to get the oil changed at the dealership. At least they used Pennzoil synthetic.

Amazing what you can learn from a discarded/lost receipt.

Sounds like they did a "Service B" which involves new oil, tire rotation, and a detailed inspection. Was this a Civic, Odyssey, or Accord?

Shops have to make a living. They cannot survive on tire rotations and $30 oil changes. They NEED to charge that 1/2-3/4 hr labor to do an inspection and to survive financially.

Odd that they'd use synthetic oil. Must've been an option. What dealer was this?

I just got done talking to a female coworker. She was telling me she had her 96 Lexus 250 oil changed at an independent mechanic. Well within five minutes of driving home, the engine started smoking and she smelled a burning smell. So she called the place and they told her to bring the car back, so she drove back there. They told her she needed a $3000 rebuild. so she denied it. she traded in the car for a new 2007 toyota camry.

Critic, the vehicle was a 2006 Ridgeline.

What is fascinating is that after they charge the customer $43.75 for oil and filter they tack on another $12.50 in miscellaneous shop supplies.

she also told me she paid this same shop $250 for a new battery and $600 for a new muffler for this same lexus. she complained and they said "well, it's a lexus"

Sounds like service A to me. Screwed in the "A".

Shops that DO NOT rip people off like this and do honest great work, have week long wait times to get in the door. The guy we go to now I can guarantee makes a TON more money from being honest, having a perfect BBB record, and not screwing people over. He's told us more times than not, that something is fine and doesn't need to be changed etc. and he often looks at stuff for free. Charges $25 for an oil change etc. That is a much better and more "make a living" type business model.
