Jeep Compass opinions

When you see one parked, don’t even drive by it.
What's wrong with them? Watching Bob's video above, I had to chuckle. We had a 2013 Equinox with the oil-burning Ecotec 2.4, the doors that were rusting at two years old, and before it got totalled at about 80,000 miles, it was going to need muffler #4 since the other 3 rotted out. Now those were actual "problems".

Perpetual CVT issues and some.

Had a Renegade and have had probably 7 or 8 compasses as rentals. Good vehicles for on road/snow, ended up getting rid of the Renegade since it couldn't handle any water off road. 3 PTUs in 27k miles. Bought the Wrangler to replace it.
I coworker bought an off road compass 4 years back and it spent so much time in shop for issues like suspension , steering and electronics. Jeep bought back and she loves her Wranger with PHEV

I have zero experience with a Jeep Compass. The wife once owned a Jeep Patriot and we hated it. Was one of the most unrefined cars and engines I have ever driven so that kinda sticks with you but I also know a entry level now discontinued Patriot is just that, entry level and discontinued...

It would be very hard for me personally moving from a Honda to a Jeep. Honda resale values are wonderful and may make now trading for that Jeep EZ but try and trade a 10 year old 2015 Jeep Compass with 115K as it will be worth about 1/4 to 1/3 what your Honda is now worth...

(Bought new) 2017.5 Compass Trail-Hawk. 248,000 miles. The Drivers seat has lost it's support. But the rest of vehicle is fine. No rust and Its seen every Wisconsin winter with it salt and brine all over the roads. I have had a few minor issues with it, that were taken care of all covered under warranty. Runs great, leaks and uses no oil. With proper tires it's a great winter and off- road ( like logging roads for hunting) vehicle. I will be driving this one until it quits. My2cents.

My advice is always stick with the RWD based Jeeps, not the FWD ones lol. The RWD based ones always seem to drive much nicer and have better quality and reliability. I'd say FWD anything is just bad lol.

I currently have a two-year Compass lease. Theses are discounted heavily periodically so you should be paying at least 5000 off sticker for a higher trim and as close to $20K for a moderate mileage used '23 still under factory powertrain warranty

Poor fuel mileage in winter (21mpg around town), Fair in the Summer. Engine is terribly noisy. Can surge and often have a warm high idle at times. But this "detuned" turbo engine specs 5W-30 so no hand wringing over thin oil. Power is adequate but no where close to the Ford 2.0 turbo hotrod. It also seems to want something more than 87 octane in the cold winter months - but not 93.
Touch screen and U-connect is garbage. AM reception poor, FM O.K., sound quality FAIR at best. Power windows unnecessarily fiddly. The Hyundai sourced 8 speed transmission is great. Body is super solid, ride motions fluid in most circumstances, Handling fair to good. But with any Winter hooning vehicle control can get dicey and disconnected compared to most other AWD. Can be set to FWD for improved fuel mileage and response or AWD lock.
Assembly quality seems excellent. I, in general, enjoy driving the car, which is a rarity. Just enough room for a bulky 240 pound 6-foot tall driver, but it did take a month of fiddling with the power seats to get them just right** - Arco

** I find many folks tilt the lower cushion down at the rear at a severe angle then also adjusting the seat back too far reclined. You are operating controls and driving a machine, not watching t.v. in your mancave. Also, You do not want a chair height at the front of the seat cushion raising your thigh and restricting bloodflow. I had a side hustle as the Factory ergonomist for Lucent Technologies spec'ing chairs and workbenches purchased in a 8k+ person facility to help to ensure good posture and comfort and lower the Workman's Comp claim rate

The previous gen compass was garbage for sure. I think the new Compass drives much better than a Base Wrangler with V6 - but the vehicles are quite a different lifestyle choice, The Compass is not really a "Jeep" it is more a compact CUV to compete with Escape, Bronco Sport Crosstrek, Honda HRV and possibly cutting into the CRV and RAV 4.

There's just a smoothness and feeling of substantialness missing. I used to have a KL (Cherokee) and a BU (Renegade) and the JLU I have now just feels so much more refined and relaxed, smoother ride, doesn't feel "buzzy". Same with WK2s and WLs I've rented. Nothing inherently wrong with the FWD based stuff for what it is, but I just think the RWD based stuff feels nicer overall.

My daughter in law has a '19 she bought used, at about 32,000, it has about 120,000 on it now, very few repairs, really the only thing was both batteries had to be replaced and a trim piece on the side of the driver's seat was loose and I fixed that with a backyard style fix (dealer replaced broken part and it broke again, I fixed it better lol). Not my kind of car but for basic transportation, really nothing to complain about.
