JB Engine tune-up

I got 93 Caprice with 5.7L engine, 115K miles.

I get oil in my air filter, so that's some kind of a PCV problem. I checked PCV, it seemed OK, but I still need to clean the hoses.

I heard that JB Engine tune-up can address a problem like that. I got a can of that, looks like a quart or less, I wonder what that can do. Any experience with that?

Yes, the PCV clicks, it is good. The breather maybe, but I think I checked that too. It must be something else. Maybe the hoses plugged up after 170,000 miles.

Why is oil getting there in the first place?

When the engine creates vacuum, vapors are sucked into the throttle valve and then into the CC to be burned. Most of those vapors are oil vapors with some moisture.

Make sure you spray carb cleaner into the orifice where it meets the throttle body or base plate.

Most PCV hoses are at least 3/8" in diameter and I have never seen one clogged up.

So it seems JB engine tune-up treatment is something not helpful with PCV problems at all?

I have never seen JB on the shelves, nor used it, nor know what solvent components might be, so I cannot make a judgement.

The bottom line is - what is the problem or application, and how the product is applied.

Amsoil Power Foam is good for cleaning these components as well. It foams onto the surface, and then by surface tension grabs the crud and puts the crud into solution.

Also, take a mirror and look below the throttle plate and see if carbon has built up there as well.

Check the "Mechanical" section, there is a thread there on "Oil catch for PCV" or similar. A catch can will stop oil getting into the motor, but it is best to find out what's happening first.

Never heard of or tried the JB stuff (is this the same mob that make the JB Weld?) If it can clean out a PCV sytem, it has to be a mighty powerful substance.

If you're trying to clean out the PCV system, then just use some carb cleaner.

When you shake the PCV valve, does it click? If so, it's good. Just spray it out with some carb cleaner.

Take the PCV valve off the hose and spray some carb cleaner up through it as well...

Maybe blowby as well?
What oil are you using and what is consumption like?
