I've noticed Bitogers are not as religious as they used to be.

Why are Bitogers not as volatile about taboo topics like oil additives, Pennzoil wax, Synlube, lucas, etc.?

People used to get banned in here left and right over having the "wrong" opinions. There used to be a lot of Bitogers that were straight up abusive. Then there was the pack of newly converted synthetic users that believed they knew every [censored]'d thing there was to know about motor oil.

The devotion to the synthetic oil religion seems to have lost some steam over the last few years.

I wonder why?

Probably because they eventually learn that the reasons they thought synthetics were better were wrong and the certain things that synthetics are better at never occurred to them in the first place.

I've noticed the same thing. I joined Bitog back in 05, surfed for a while and then went away, (got really busy in life). Now that I have a little more free time and have returned, the site seems to be more open to things like MMO, Seafoam, B-12 etc. Don't get me wrong, it was a great site then and is a great site today. I've always been an oil nut and still am. Its a great place to learn and share.

A few years ago I made a parody thread about buying a new AMG Benz and not knowing what AMG meant, and being determined to use the cheapest oil money could buy, like damaged bottles of "Wild Cat" from Big Lots for $0.50 a bottle with a dollar rebate per bottle. I almost got banned over that because apparently a bunch of dudes ran to Big Lots looking for damaged bottles of Wild Cat oil on sale with a rebate.

I've been using synthetic oil exclusively since 1994. I've tried modern dino oils in the past, but I did not like watching my miles per gallon drop or my engine noise increase.

I think it is because prices of top motor oils has fallen, so people don't have to "invest" into a jug of synthetic oil anymore.

Also, the science has created it's own marketing based on VOA, UOA, and extended drain data in various vehicles.

We all know what synthetic we are dropping $24.88 on at WalMart by now.

This site has just expanded into more mechanical help, and to help people discuss more social issues before locks are imposed.

Some Second Amendment threads have become VERY heated and Bill never locked them, I cringed every time I threw in a political post, not wanting the dreaded 2 week ban.

So, the site has evolved for me to learn more general mechanics, diagnoses, tricks, new cars and features, and to keep up on political themes that are affecting the Constitution.

Doesn't hurt when someone posts a sale that is going on for oil though... Or when PU is being clearanced at WM. I only got one jug of PU 2 years ago for $23 at WM, I missed out!

The passion from some members is still very evident, even if the topic du jour has changed. Some thick-and-thin threads still go very long, and there was much angst in a few high-VI vs. low-VI threads a few months back. I think passion is good, and adds some spice to life, as long as the discourse remains respectful.

As always, the moderators here do a wonderful job of keeping the peace.

As for religion, some of us still have it. My family is in church every Sunday morning and every Wednesday evening!

Good point. However, PCMO forum is precisely where the most heated of religious activities went down.

I can't use Synthetic oil because it is so slippery that it would shoot out of every seal and probably even pop my spark plugs out. And Pennzoil has some kind of wax that will coat everything like butter and cause sludge.

I missed that but April Fools is just around the corner. Time for me to start brainstorming.

I visit a lot of discussion forums/boards and I have to say, BITOG has it's own unique "mood".

At first, I thought everyone here was super stuck-up, holier-than-thou, ego-maniacs. Now I just see that there is a group of guy who do a really good job of making it feel that everyone on here is just like them.

I just remember to wear the right hat when I log onto this forum.

A lot of good dudes on here. A ton of good info. A boat load of crazy ideas based on nothing but guesses and their own personal biased opinions.

But it's kinda why I like it here.

Switched to dino got better mpg. Noise no difference at all. I think at first people were interested in things they read that made them happy. They read what they wanted to hear. Works in all forms of life. Tell them what they want to hear and remember you have a obligation to take money from

Sorry, but I tried out synthetic oil the first time back in 1988, long before the internet existed, or before anyone even knew what synthetic oil even was. I didn't know what it was, but I loved how my car ran on it. I was absolutely ignorant, and thoroughly enjoyed my experience with five dust-covered bottles of Mobil1 bought from Auto Shack (pre-Zone).

I didn't continue using it because Auto Shack did not replace the bottles I purchased.

I got back on the horse in 1994 with Syntec.

I notice this as well, but I don't think it's a bad thing. This site gives the absolute best mechanical help when it comes to cars. It's pretty amazing to have a community of so many knowledgable people.

Also, name any car and you will find more specific and detailed threads about said vehicle than any enthusiast website. Even ones devoted to one brand or manufacturer.

Also nice to not have the macho "tough guy" mentality you find on so many auto forums.
