I have just had it,

with the majority of big-name parts stores! In metro Atlanta, English is the 2nd language, and the help seem to know nothing about cars, outside of wheels and air fresheners. The parking lot is litered with spark plugs, turn signal bulbs, and Burger King wrappers. It's pathetic...

I went out of my way, to find a small independent parts store. It was refreshing. A real old-school place that had good ol' boys behind the counter, that actually talked cars.

They stock WIX filters. So, I paid my $5.56, and left with the feeling of supporting a family biz.

I believe WIX is an American owned company, as well.

I felt that $5.56 was a fair price. So, now... my first experience with a WIX filter. The box is a good read, and the filter seems sound. I hope it's considered a top-notch product...

Strange to me, that WIX seems to be found at independent shops & parts stores. I never knew they were out there, after years of Auto Zone, Pep Boys, and Advance...

Wix makes excellent filters, no question about it.

Their headquarters is in Gastonia, NC, which is only about 220 miles from you in Atlanta. You should swing by there and see if they'll let you take a tour or something. That's what a true BITOGer would do (with pictures and a writeup included, of course!).

And oddly enough, in addition to being excellent filters, I like Wix for many of the same reasons you've already listed.

If you like Wix products you might want to check out Filter1.com. I have found their prices on there are cheaper then most filters found in the major Auto stores including Napa which is made by Wix. Plus if you order 6 or more filters totaling over $50, shipping is free. I just order a 2 year supply of filters for my vehicles and end up getting a quality product for cheaper then most other brands. Take a look!

I lucked into 24 WIX-made "Castrol MAXPro" 3985 oil filters (equivalent to the NAPA "Silver" 21626) for my '03 Hyundai (seriously oversize, but the Hyundai 2.7L V6 has room to burn) shortly after I bought the car. These filters were being cleared out while K-mart was in the throws of consolidating its stock during the court mandated bail-out. $0.25 each. Eat your hearts out.

Ive used WIX in my last 2 cars and think they are excellent filters. I also really like the air filters as well.

You've been going to the wrong places!

Both NAPA and CarQuest filters are private label Wix. They are high quality filters that will serve you well. I agree with SR77 about Filter1, but if you only buy one or two filters a year, I would stick with my local supplier.

I know the feeling, I like to do business with places like that. Unfortunately, where I live the big chains have driven them all out of business.....

Wix oil filters are sold at Oreilly Auto Parts here. I know it's a big chain, but I really like our local store! I like Wix Filters as well!!! They're worth the extra money IMO!

On my vehicles I use Napa Gold's which as you know are Wix.
Napa Gold's are easier to find than the Wix label in my area.
when I order from Rockauto.com,I'll add a couple of Wix oil filters.

I've recently begun using the NAPA Proselect line (WIX) and have asked PeteC who is an engineer at WIX if the NASCAR Select or Gold lines are worth the extra money and can't get a straight answer. Lubeowner has high praise for the Proselect line and my guess is that you're getting 80-90% of the quality you'd find in a NAPA Gold or WIX so I'm thinking that the higher prices for these probably aren't worth the little additonal quality gain. Kind of like a Nissan Maxima vs. an Infiniti G35--the basic structure and major components are all the same, but the Infiniti has some additional glitz and minor touches that allow them to charge a higher price.

I'm using the NAPA Gold in my wife's 03 Subaru Forester. I've always liked the NAPA auto parts stores because, at least at the two in my area, the guys there always know what they're talking about, unlike the people at places like Checkers and Auto Zone, who usually know next to nothing, but talk like they know it all.

I decided to try Wix also. I went with Filter1.com and ordered 5 oil filters, 2 engine air filters, and 1 cabin air filter for $51 with free shipping and no tax!

I received the shipment, and the quality and service was excellent. I highly recommend this company.

I still have two of the Wix-made K-Mart Penske filters(a nice bright *Yellow*), plus a couple of "full fledged" Wix 51085's. Excellent filters, very well made, good thick shell.

Wonston--the FWD/RWD difference is only recently--during the nineties and early 2000's they were identical including the drive wheels.

During the '90s the G35 did not exist. The first G35 came out in '01 or '02 and it has always been RWD.
