I'm working from home today and using my Windows XP partition on the desktop when the Apple Updater wakes up and says I just can't live without iTunes 8. It says it will vacuum money out of my wallet, I mean suggest songs from the iTunes store that I cannot live without.

I wacked NO since I want some info before I upgrade from iTunes 7.whatever.

So anybody using it. I'm not a power iTunes user. I don't even have an iTunes store account. I d/l some podcasts and put Car Talk and a few Religious podcasts on my iPod, or rip the occassional book on tape to listen to while I'm driving.

So anyone using it yet?

No, don't use it. Version 8 installs a kernel mode driver that has been reported to BSOD systems. Wonderful.

Stick with 7.7x for the time being.

I don't do these updates any more. I found that it messed with my 3rd party software such as itunes export and podplayer. Also, the updates mess with my ipod integration in my car (dension icelink) and in my truck (Neuleus).

I stopped using iTunes (7.something) a long time ago, as I found it to be major bloatware and resource hog, of which majority of features I did not need (purchasing music on-line).

Now I use Floola (freeware) for adding/managing content on my iPod.

I may look into Floola.

I'd like to find a build for Solaris. I was hoping it was written in Java so it would run anywhere. It says it's cross platform, but I don't see a Solaris build.

Quicken, TurboTax and iTunes are about the only reasons I still boot my Windows partition.

I suppose I could play with one of the VM products and run Windows in a Solaris provided VM on those occassions I need Windows.

The kids use Windows, but I usually use Solaris.

I found something called aTunes (http://www.atunes.org/) that supposedly runs on Solaris, but I have no personal experience with this app. Looks pretty good from a distance, though. :)

Quicken and TurboTax both have online versions if you are comfortable with that. I have used the Online TurboTax the last few years and like it. I have never tried the Quicken Online though.

That's why I love VMWare

I run Quickbooks in it.

Ditch all the Apple wastefull bloatware....Quicktime, iTunes, Bonjour, Ipod scanner(if you don't own one). Remove them and install QuickTime Alternative. One process vs 4 to 6.

My Win XP with a Zune is free from all the extra processes I do not need.

I upgraded and haven't seen any issues. But I don't personally use it. It's for the kids and their IPODs.

But both iTunes and Quick Time add "helper exe's" to your start up without asking. I hate it when programs do that and think they know better. All it does is use up resources needlessly. A quick scan with CCleaner gets rid of them.
