It's the most moronic idiotic thing I've ever seen

no, and if that happens they'll be paying for my time off work. Hitting me with a cellphone or not IS assault and battery here. jail time is also possible

If someone bumps into you and you intentionally break their phone to make a point, and they retaliate, I don't think the results will be all that clear-cut in Court.

Legally there is no justification for attacking someone who causes property damage. But i can understand why someone who is a lowlife hood punk might think so. That's why so many of them end up in prison.

Agreed.

Similarly, there is no legal justification that would allow someone to act as an aggressor, and intentionally damage someone else's property because they accidentally bumped into them, but I do understand that the Internet is awash in this kind of frustrated fist-shaking.

It would be very easy to get away with it. Oh. I just put my hand out to brace myself for collision and accidentally knocked the phone out of the dipwads hand.

it's not like we're walking around armed here.

But I'll make sure to tell you all what happened, when and if.

Hows that pokemon thing doing now? I think it's a bit of a fad that will dissappear quickly, esp as the summer ends. The numbers of smartphone zombies will drop quickly.

Oh sorry, I accidentally slapped the [censored] out of you.

You old [censored] need to grow up or die already.

Or just stand still if you want to look at your phone.

Just FYI, i just looked up possible punishments, and if they ran over my 9 year old daughter, they could face up to 5 years in prison, and that's without her suffering any permanent damage.

What kind of reality do you live in? It's usually the guys who talk machismo that go 110 pounds. The other tip off is they're on a forum for many many years and never post a photo.

Why do you want to get into possible trouble with the person you try to destroy his/her phone, also you may get into trouble with the laws.

1. I live in a city where people routinely get shot over parking spots, much less $600 phones. It is chock-full of "reality."

2. Mouthing off over nonsense like someone bumping into you does happen more in affluent suburbs, because in bad neighborhoods people are smart enough to not pick fights with strangers over bull****. ( Refer to 1. )

I live in the reality where people get shot over parking spaces. Knifed over potato chips. Where there are people who would not bat an eye at slitting your throat because you looked at them funny.

I was out driving around in the MG the other day, and twice within a few minutes of each other I'd have been dead if I hadn't been paying attention.

One likely wasn't texting, but none the less was lack of paying attention to what was going on. It was a merging lane on the freeway, and I was riding along a semi in clear view of his side-view mirror. The next thing I know, he signals and starts moving over. Thank goodness I had room to swerve, as the rear wheels of his trailer would have run right over my hood regardless.

The second was definitely texting related. I was driving down a relatively empty 5-lane road(2 in each direction+a turning lane) at the posted speed limit. It was nearing dusk, but was driving into the sun and my headlights were on. A lady decided that, for whatever reason, she needed to pull out of a side street and right in front of me in the left lane without bothering to accelerate in any sort of a hurry. It happened quickly enough that all I could do was slam on the brakes-but the sound of my blaring horn and the tire squeal from inadvertently locking my brakes wasn't enough to even get her to look up from her phone. I then nearly got rear ended because I managed to stall my engine in all of that(pardon me for forgetting to dump the clutch or toss the car into neutral) and had to stop for a few seconds while I restarted the car and got moving again.

It makes me scared to even take a small car out onto the roads...as much as I try to drive defensively, try to always have an escape route planned, and stay as far away from other cars as I can, I can't always do this in heavy traffic and can't account for people who just do stupid things without paying attention.

A few of the responses here prove that this problem is not going away anytime soon.

They don't see anything wrong with it. We're just a bunch of old foggies who don't understand technology.

Punching buttons is not technology and doesn't make you a bit savvy about anything. I could teach a chimp how to do it. Explain to me how Ethernet works, microprocessors, and the nitty gritty guts of phones and protocols and I'll have some respect for you.

This makes me think of all the times I've been to my kids' events; concerts, games, graduations, etc. Instead of experiencing the moments I see lots of people shooting video with a variety of devices, sometimes held up right in my line of sight. Somehow, I think it will never be the same watching it later, if they ever do. I don't want to take a bunch of photos and video. I want to live the moments and re-experience them through my memory.
