The problem with my A/C is a very very bad A/C compressor seal leak. The guy at the shop said he'd never seen one leak out that fast before. Anyway I'm arguing with my dad over whether or not to get a Four Seasons reman ($180) or a Four Seasons new ($225). I think the new is the better choice, but ultimately he is the one paying for it. I offered to make up the difference but he will do what he wants which will probably be the cheapest option. Anyway it's going to be a new Compressor, accumulator, and then recharge. Hopefully around $380 total with tax.

My truck runs R-12 and had a leak. I just decided that between the side windows and the sliding rear window it was easier to just go sans A/C. Such a shame, it could actually get condensation to pour down the windows... they've tried but R-134 doesn't hold a candle to R-12.

Well, the shop recharged it so they could find the leak. When it works, it blows ice cold, literally arctic blast. Cavaliers have fantastic A/C. Definitely getting it fixed, as in coupe form the ventilation is not the best even with the windows down, and I can't afford the horrible gas mileage that it will likely result in.

Stay away from remanned compressors! They are junk! Especially from Four seasons. (We call em "for seizing").

Remans can be hit or miss. I took a gamble, a few years back, when I replaced the compressor on my Olds with a reman and, knock on wood, it's been running great since.

You got lucky. We wont even offer a rebuilt. We have a 100% failure rate from them.
Only about a 2% with new ones. Even imported new ones seem to be ok.

Without question when the price is that close go new!
The extra refrigerant need to swap out a bad rebuilt will eat the difference and you still have a rebuilt.Not to speak of the labor.

I bought a 'kit' on ebay. compressor, accumulator/drier, PAG oil etc. Less than $200 shipped.
