I'd honestly like it to be a success. But from the prototype photos that I saw I thought it was rather ugly. I'm my opinion it didn't carry through enough of the styling of the 1967-1968 Camaro. The previews looked more like a cartoon.

Of course price is also an issue. They'll have to be competitive with the Mustang in order to make some real market headway. Otherwise it's just another wannabe like the GTO was.

Hate to be a party pooper, but two words come to mind: peak oil. I don't totally buy the worst-case scenario, but I see enough to worry me, and it's clear that the days of cheap oil and all-we-can-use are waning fast.

We need gas misers, not yet another sporty guzzler. I'll go on a limb and predict that the new Camaro will be dead in the water in 2008 because gas will be far more expensive then.

A secondary factor will be what has killed off so many other sporty cars, including the previous Camaro, the Supra, the RX-7, the old 300ZX, the GTO, etc.: the market for uncheap two-door cars is much more limited today than in the past. At higher price levels, people today want practicality to go with the expense. Ford sells so many Mustangs because it is possible to buy a cheap Mustang. A new Camaro that starts well above the Mustang in $$$ is going to have problems with sales.

Flame suit on, cap'n!

I'm another import driver that used to buy domestic ... and even I am hopeful this new car will be a success.

I wouldn't buy one, but I have to admit that the latest Mustang is just awesome looking! Ford struck a perfect balance of making a modern car with enough retro cues to make it unmistakably look like the Mustangs of the late 60s, early 70s.

I hope the new Camaro is done as well ... and is priced competitively.

Aiutomotive journalists said that instead of developing the neat-looking, but otherwise unimpressive SSR, they should have sunk the R&D dollars into an updated F-body.

I agree.

Be interesting to see if they do a good job on it like Ford did with the latest Mustang. I would also hope that Chevy keeps it competitively priced with the Mustang ....like they were in the late 60s. I also hope they give it a good drive train and keep the weight down like the 67 - 69 Camaros. If they make it an over priced heavy weight pig like they did with later generation Camaros then it won't be a good thing for sales IMO.

I drive Toyotas for daily drivers and have since the mid 80s. But have owned two 68 Z/28 Camaros for decades. I would like nothing better than to see Chevy make a long over due return of their glory days with unique classic 60s looks, good performance, good value.

Gas hog? My first inclination is no. If Chevy can apply some of the lessons from the latest Corvette into this Camaro, they will be fine. Like squeezing 28-32 MPG out of the latest "large displacement(?)" Corvette.

I think Chevy, and GM in general, are well aware of the need to provide quality out of the box. The latest offerings from GM seem to support this. I just hope Chevy prices this Camaro competitively, or yes, they will have a short production run.

I probably won't buy one, but it's good to see that the Camaro will be built! I think it's a mighty fine looking ride!

Where did you see GM was going to put a Rat motor in the new Camaro?

Thats all fine but if the production camaro looks
like the prototype its not going to sell well.
There is a fine line between stupid looking..
and great seller
GM is defining the stupid look to me

Rand, I couldn't agree with you more.

Even those who don't like Ford really dig the way the Mustang looks. I just don't see the GM creating that kind of lust for the Camaro.
