Seriously, your friggin' alt becomes D/C'd, you drive it for a while like that, plug the alternator in for a few seconds, what do you think is going to happen, magic full charge?

NO. Charge the friggin' battery. The lights all going out are clearly pointing to you having a drained battery.

What's the date code on the battery? Is it Phil's home cheap-a$$ "I came from a junkyard" $20.00 "I have no idea how many CCA it has" white-box specials that is 7 years old?

If so, buy a new freakin' battery.

+ 1,000,000

Voltage going up crazy high sounds like an open circuit someplace. Without the battery absorbing charge and maintianing DC voltage, the alternator may put out unregulated current at max voltage. Turning off loads makes the voltage go higher.

He stated a wire came off the alternator "as before".

Having read his threasd for some time NAPA replaced his battery once recently so it's relatively new

Steps to resolution:

1) Test, charge battery
2) Permanently fix loose wire (Note: The repair should not include JB Weld)

Your 2 hour "ITU" yesterday probably helped with your situation today

Yes.

I attached alternator back with it running. Voltage gauge still showed one bar low.

I believe maybe the battery is truly low.

And, if I had thought of this, and to take battery with me before trip, it would be on the CTEK now.

Will report back Monday! Battery will be charged by Tuesday, and it will roar to life once again.

Even the alternator is brand new too.

This isn't going to be easy. You'll need some way to re-energize the battery. The obvious solution would be to make a funnel out of tin foil to direct solar energy into the battery. This, unfortunately, won't work.

You could use a dedicated "battery charger" or use a set of heavy wires called jumper cables to hook up to another vehicle.

Am I sensing a pinch of sarcasm here?

Oh, how sweet that would be.

I'm all in PANIC mode!

Don't buy POS's like this and if you knew what you were doing, there wouldn't be this "panic".

Am ready to go here for that bolt. http://www.yelp.com/biz/eddies-speed-shop-inc-bayonne

As to the wire.. the "clip" holding it is unattached. How do I fix THAT?

It just kind of "sits" on there.. as tight as can be, for un-clipped.

I'm going to regret saying this, but we really need a pic of what you are talking about here.

Having a 20 year old truck that wasnt known for its reliability. Charge battery and drive it minimum 1hr. Longer if you can. Soon to be time to get something newer?...

Dude, he works (or worked) at Burger King. This is about as good as it gets.

If the connector is broken you can crimp a new connector on. The cheapest way to get one would be to snip one from a car in a junkyard. If you like new you may find it available at your nearest auto parts store. If they don't have it try a GM dealer parts counter or a parts store that sells AC Delco.

Also, there's always the handyman's secret weapon. You'll have to use enough to wrap around the alternator a few times because the adhesive softens when it gets hot.

If you spent all the time you waste working on your car (and typing questions that a simple google search could answer), and instead spend it at work getting paid, maybe you could actually buy a car that worked.

It may not be the EXACT same alternator, but he points to the connector at :21 and you can really see what I am talking about when he removes a cover, of sorts, from there.

Really good video, as to alternators.

In the still frame for the video, you can see the larger connector I speak of clear as day.

All I can do at this exact point is get it in, unclipped and un-adhesived, in there as tight as can be, snug...
