Back to the original topic. I changed my oil in my corolla. 3 quarts Pennzoil 5w30, 1.5 quarts Pennzoil Platinum 5w30. Changed out the manual transmission fluid with Coastal 75W-90, once I hit 15-20K on the car will drain it out and put in amsoil transmission fluid and will likely forget about it till i get to 100K and change it out again maybe.
It was my oil change weeknd.....

How do you like the synpower? I got about 30qrts at bogo and undecided if I will run them or not. Right now I am doing 3qrts Pennzoil 5w30 1.5qrts Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 and will just be sticking with 5K intervals. Figure it will be a waste to run Full Synthetic for 5K but might do a couple of 10K oci's here and there. Also have 18 quarts of amsoil 0W20 that I may eventually run as well.
I cant complain about synpower. Great stuff.
thanks. I am sure eventually i probably will run the synpower or amsoil. Not too concerned about the 5k warranty that toyota has. I know to check the dipstick every so often if I will be going 10K + miles on an interval. Heck even with starting my 5K intervals I check the stick regularly

Yep, you heard me right. I just wanted to have a fresh clean engine for the new PP and Auto-RX. I basically had a cocktail of oils in the engine prior to draining plus a Roebling Road track day and a few Auto crosses. Since I have an excess of oil on the shelf, I grabbed the full bottle of Delo and the left over 1/2 gallon of Rotella and through it in there for a quick flush.

I'm with globey. My first car was a 75 Mercury Bobcat. You know the one, a Pinto with Merc badges. Well used, my first experience was replacing a slipping clutch, and installing the at-the-time required CB radio. I drove that thing my junior and senior year to school, and a full time job at Radio Shack. I was very fortunate to go to a private school with grants from those way better off than I was, and never missed an opportunity pay some of the good karma back by helping that really cute girl with the very long, strawberry hair get her new Mercedes diesel started in the dead of winter. Or replacing a freeze plug in an original, 67 Camaro with a 454 and rock crusher trans when the senior realized he had no antifreeze in his California car, just water. An then there was that new Suzuki GT380 triple 2 stroke... seized up good when the kid let the CCI system run out of oil. That was a great project at 18 years old. Man I miss those days. They made me appreciate everything I have.. from wife and kids to job, house, and the few toys I do have. I realized I'm fine with a few nice things, but many more very average things. Kids today think the world owes them something, and my theory is all of the instant gratification experiences thrust on them just feeds that desire. Push a button on a video game, they get a result. TXT their BFF, and get an instant reply. Pop the top on a Monster, or BAWLS get a quick burst of energy. It is driven in todays music.. Nickelback, 50cent, even Tim McGraw. The lyrics all follow a theme of get more, be happy. I don't get it.
Oh, BTW... glad you got your oil changed.. mine is on the docket for this weekend.. Schaeffers 5-30 and a Baldwin filter in the Envoy.
There was a very long thread over on the Cobalt message board, where some kid was complaining about the brand-new 2007 Cobalt his parents bought him. He said it wasn't what he needed to "compete" with the EVOs and WRXs that all the other kids in his school have. He said his Cobalt was so awful and embarassing that it was causing him stress and depression! LOL If that was my kid there would be a VERY big shoe print on his butt after I was done kicking him, and he'd be walking or taking the bus to school every day. Spoiled brat!
kids should start with a used car, a hand-me-down even, so they can learn responsiblity instead of entitlement.

Agreed. I also agree with kids starting with an old used car. Not a brand new car! What does that teach them??? Kids do NOT need nor deserve a new brand new car.
I turned 16 in 1986. Since I wanted a car....guess what....I had to get a job. I washed dishes at a restaurant for 3.35 an hour (minimum wage at the time). Junky wage but I was the best darn dishwasher that place had ever seen. I may have been cleaning people's scraps but I took pride in my job and gave it 110% every day. Saved up my money and bought a 1983 Buick Skyhawk for $4200. I also paid for all gas, insurance, and maintenance.
That car was mine because of MY hard work, not my parents' nor anyone else's. Taught me the value of a dollar and also set me up for later in life. I credit that dish dog job for my current success in life now.
I'm with the people who had to earn their first car. Got my license at 18 (1994), and wanted a car bad. So I got a job at my local Woolco (2 weeks later it was Wal-Mart, LOL, and the one I'm back working at part-time!)
That job, plus some 'savings' bought me, like Greggy, a 1985 Buick Skyhawk sedan for $1200. Not the best purchase, as it cost ome over $4000 in the next two yeaers to keep running, but I still appreciated that it was mine that I bought myself, and i still remeber it fondly as my first car....

ps OT: my first car was the original $4995 Hyundai Excel. Still proud I bought it with my own money & drove it throughout college.
My first car was slow, safe and cheap (and paid off by working). After owning something that does 0-60 in 30 secs, a modern 4banger feels quick!
On topic: the week before was an oil change weekend - put 3.5 qts of QS Q-Torque in my car and the following brew in my sis' 4runner (which we took for a long camping trip this past weekend): 1.5qts Chevron, 3qts Pennzoil, 1qt Maxlife; all 10w30, and it cleared out the last of my dino stash. Ran great on the road trip and got ~22mpg loaded down on the freeway before heading up the mountains.
