Is USPS completely incompetent now?

Yes, Their delivery estimates now are completely out of touch with reality. Getting something that shows it'll be delivered by Tuesday?.. It'll show up on Saturday if you're lucky.

I no longer send brightly colored birthday cards in the mail. It haven't happened to me, but I've heard too many stories of gift cards being stolen and the letter never making it to the destination.

I use a large USPS flat rate priority envelope to mail it now. It's just the cost of doing business now.

This is frustrating. Happened to me, went to the USPS. The post master said he would look into it and call me back.

I doubt he could have done anything about it anyway, but still didn't call me back.

Had my burner card compromised online. IIRC, I was having difficulty making a payment on a website, there formatting was a little off and it wouldn't take the card unless I tried another browser. I thought it was on my end but the site was likely hacked.

Anyway, some dufus used the card to buy power tools at 2 in the morning when I couldn't see charge alert ping through my phone and the seller shipped them out before I could stop them in the morning. They used a burner email with my name on it and everything and couldn't stop UPS from delivering it and wouldn't disclose the delivery address to me.

Anyway, when you need a new CC, asking for express delivery will avoid USPS.

For many reasons, I keep my mail man buttered up really nice for Christmas. 💰💰💰
Hopefully you were still able to contest the CC charges! This is the reason 2FA was invented (although dedicated hackers could clone your phone too).

Yes, the charges were reversed.

I believe this was a man-in-the-middle attack where the CC data was scraped at the merchants portal. Maybe some kind of overlay or glitch to catch the number input. If you experience strange behavior on a website portal, be careful. Fortunately it was a CC I use online, at gas stations, and restaurants, so it served it's purpose. Rather than the important CC used for important, recurring transactions.

My service has taken a noticeable dip in competence with the latest generation of postal workers.
Pride in one's work seems to be very scarce these days.
True story. Roughly five years ago usps had a hiring event in Denver and when I looked up the address it was some random building. I asked the local post office if that was the correct building and they told me no. USPS put the wrong address on the hiring event flyer.

I ship packages with USPS often and have zero issues. Sometimes labels will fade in transit (conveyor belt wear if face down I suspect), depending on label and printer quality, which then requires a manual sort. Manual sorting may explain some of the delays. Always insure your packages and dont buy postage retail, something like Pirateship will save you bundles of $$

How packaged and what USPS service?
The Australian company sent me a replacement fuse at no charge a few weeks later. It came in a small padded envelope. I don't remember which USPS service was used the first time, but with the replacement I could track it through Australia Post and then continue tracking it through USPS once it reached California until it was delivered.

What really surprised me wasn't the lost package, but the postmaster's response. He basically said there's no special place where missing items end up. If a package is going to be found, it's because it simply reenters the normal mail stream and continues processing. Otherwise, it's effectively gone.

And international mail is always extreme "lost" rate........we used to ship all over the world. Try shipping into China. We just didn't after, nothing, like never, ever made it.
